    I've used GEM for years

    1. 2007. car taken off the top of brecon beacons to have a destroyed tyre replaced &

    2. 2009. carried home from coventry when immobiliser decided not to allow me to start the engine.

cost me last year average £40-00 for each car. well worth it.

Just a word of caution about Tescos cover

"Tesco Breakdown Cover applies to vehicles less than 16 years old. "

Top tip on GEM - thanks. WAY cheaper than the AA thieves I have had and they advise no age limit on car which had otherwise seemed to be a real problem !  Big Smile

    Cheers, Tom

who do you bank with? some banks offer a "premium" type account where you can pay something every month and get interest free overdrafts etc, but also they tend to include breakdown cover, mobile phone insurance and some even travel insurance.

Halifax and co-op do one for sure, Halifax is called ultimate reward account and costs 12.50 a month for lots of things including all the above. Having had to use that when I had the bike smash I can say it was worth it for me!

I use "autoaid" £37 ish per year for full cover, you get a number to ring like the AA or RAC etc but when the recovery guy (or girl) comes out to you they need paying for the service which you then claim back off of Autoaid. If you rarely use the service and just have it "just in case" like most drivers this seems the best way. I spent years paying for AA/rac membership and never using it so this way I have peace of mind that there is someone to call if I cant get going myself and it's not casting and arm and a leg.

I've used Autonational for a few years on a number of cars. They've been fine the 2 times we needed them (once to tow an overheating Rover to get a radiator sealed, and another time to start the Rover which had loss of spark).

They don't have their own fleet, but arrange for a local garage to pick you up / do the work. Both outifts they used were fine and very professional.
