    Re: To shiny chrome or not to shiny chrome...

     I too have a mk2 in Brilliant Black and chrome looks FANTASTIC!! The colour really lends it to the bling. {#emotions_dlg.thumb}

    Go for chrome not satin in my opinion.

    But as has been said above, you can go waaaayyyy over the top.{#emotions_dlg.sick}

    I came back from the brink of overload, so do it bit by bit. You'll also enjoy doing it piece by piece too until you get the look you're happy with. Also your wallet/purse won't take so much of a hammering. {#emotions_dlg.zip}

    I found that a chrome gear surround made the sun bounce back into your face which can be a pain, so I've now got a 7mm chrome gear surround (which so far, no one else has got as far as I know.....so nice to have something original). {#emotions_dlg.cool}

    I agree about the RX8 gear knob too. I have one and it looks great with the chrome interior, and as has been mentioned, it's heavier than a MX5 gear knob so the 'throw' is smoother. If you do go for one, it's handy that they make a 5 & 6 gear knob. Some are illuminated too.....although i haven't worked that one out yet, so if anyone knows.......?

    Basically, it's all about personal taste ,......and whether you've got any!!!!

    I put on chrome windscreen washer covers but to me they spoilt the look of the bonnet, so I gave them away. They looked great on a Calfornia.

    Chrome heaven............{#emotions_dlg.tongue}

    Re: To shiny chrome or not to shiny chrome...

    I love the chrome...

    Here's mine with the vent rings, I've since done the heater control too.

    I've also done the door handles and the wing mirrors. OTT for some, but I love it. I think it works well on a dark car.

    I want to do the fuel cap and the windscreen surround, the roll hoops and replace the exhaust, then it will be job done. I think the chrome works really well with the clear indicators/reflectors and the bright finish on my replacement rims. I reckon another couple of years or so... then saving for the supercharger! Wink

    Cheers,

    Drew.

    The shiny chrome looks nice. I am of the opinion that the shiny version looks very good. Nevertheless the satin one is also nice but I would choose the shiny version. I also would love to have a brilliant black car with black leather seats because this always looks very exclusive. Also like the pictures of the cars you have posted here. They look great. Smile

    Nick and Jane:

    Just fitted the Chrom Design windscreen surround to our black MKII, very happy with the look.

    Treat yourself to some shiny bits, but do it properly with some thought and not over-the-top

    Mmmm, like! Do you have any links to those details? Vents, hazard, heater knob surrounds(?), hand brake, gear knob? Just the right level of bling methinks :) Also, that RX8 knob looks nice, link? Maybe these things will be available at the National Rally this Sunday. I'll have a look around. Cheers!

    Andy,

    Those white insets in the doors, were they standard on your car or did you add them later?

    Slightly late reply Confused

    They aren't white, they're silver to compliment the bodywork, were removed and painted.

    The interior accents you can find on mx5parts/ebay.

    Re: To shiny chrome or not to shiny chrome...

    Got a set of aluminium "clip-in" vent surrounds from fleab*y, liked the look of them rather than chrome, because (a) polished aly is not as garish as chrome, and (b) they're slightly thinner ring than the stick-on chrome ones; also, I wasn't sure of the longevity of "stick-on" rings. Very pleased with the look.

    Only thing is they don't come with a hazard switch surround, but still lift the dash a lot.

    Silver Mk 2 with bog standard "all-black" interior............... Needs a bit more lifting though!

    IMHO, "less is more" is a valid principle!
