Ady's going cycling in aid of Farleigh Hopsice ........
Hi everyone. It's now quite a while ago that I ran the London Marathon for Asthma UK ..... over 4 years to be exact. Doesn't time fly eh. Well I felt like giving myself another little challenge. I quite fancy doing the 'London to Brighton' cycle ride next year, but that's a little way off yet so thought i'd break myself in with a slightly smaller challenge, so have registered for a charity 50km cycle ride.
The ride is in aid of Farleigh Hospice. This hospice cares for thousands of patients and families every year and costs a lot of money to keep going. ...... This is a small piece taken from their website (www.farleigh.org) ..............
"At any one time Farleigh Hospice is providing care to around 1,100 local people affected by life limiting illnesses, whilst also supporting their families and carers. To fund this care we rely on people fundraising, leaving gifts in their Wills, making donations, supporting our shops and playing the Local Hospice Lottery to help us raise around £6,750 each and every day. As the number of people needing our services continues to grow each year, we depend on this help and support now more than ever. "
I have set-up a page for sponsorship at www.justgiving.com/ady-goes-cycling for people that wish to sponsor me for this event.
I would like to say thank you for anyone who would like to support me.

Re: Ady's going cycling in aid of Farleigh Hopsice ........
Lets hope you get lots of sponsorship for this Ady for it is a very worthwhile cause indeed. Farleigh Hospice gave tremendous support and help to my late wife until she died in 2002.After this I worked as a volunteer carer in the day centre in Braintree until it closed so I have first hand experience of the marvellous work that they do. I have continued to support them to this day. Farleigh Hospice relies heavily upon donations of all sizes so even if you can't afford a lot every little helps as they say.

Many thanks to you Kevin and to Trish for sponsoring me. It is very much appreciated and goes a very long way to me hitting my target.
When I get my forms through I should be able to get some 'off-line' sponsors too

Re: Ady's going cycling in aid of Farleigh Hopsice ........
I just thought i'd give everyone an update on the training ......
Today I managed a 17.67 mile ride which was hard today as every road I cycled along always seem to have a head wind and it's very humid. ..... And I thought Essex was meant to be quite flat ?!! haha. I think it's dawned on me today that this isn't going to be quite as easy as I thought it might be. Knowing that the event is only in three weeks this kept me going.
Im hoping to complete the course in 2 hours which is going to mean lots more training as I was a little behind schedule today as I cycled an average of 13.33 mph ..... I need to be in the area of approx 15mph+ average. I did manage to burn off 927 calories though so that'll help my ever expanding' waist line !! haha.
Thank you so much to everyone that has sponsored me so far, i'm nearly on target, but have a little way to go yet so any more help would be appreciated by me, and certainly of course from everyone at Farleigh Hopsice.

Hi Ady, little tip from an ex long distance racing man (many years ago) Narrow saddle, lycra shorts with chamois insert and loads of vaseline round nether regions, could go on for hours but don't want to be boring! Good luck Paul & Trish

Re: Ady's going cycling in aid of Farleigh Hopsice ........
Thanks for the tips ...... I've invested in some padded shorts. They're helping a little at the moment. I'm now keeping fingers crossed that it'll be dry on the day now !! eek !!
Also, many thanks for the donation David, you're support is appreciated.

Re: Ady's going cycling in aid of Farleigh Hopsice ........
Another update .......
Went out this morning and managed a ride of 18.5 miles. It seemed a lot easier today than it did last week even though it was incredibly windy !! Why does it always seem that the wind is against you !! haha ....... Managed to complete the distance in 1hr 16mins which worked out to an average of 14.59mph, so nearly on target to complete the ride with a 15mph average. Also managed to burn off 1001 calories which should have worked off some of last nights dinner !!
Hopefully i'll be able to get some more miles in during the week if the rain keeps off while cycling to work.
There's only two weeks to go and still plenty of time to get some sponsorship in to support Farleigh Hospice. I have a 'Just Giving' page set up which makes things a whole lot easier !! You can find my page at : www.justgiving.com/ady-goes-cycling . Thanks to everyone for your support so far and for your advice.
This was me yesterday after a quick 8 mile ride ............

Brilliant bike, looks good, got some really nice gear on it. Oh, and the outfit is cool. (Don't forget the vaseline! Also two Mars bars for a sugar fix). Paul & Trish
