    Silverstone Classic 22nd - 24th July 2011

After the fine showing of 230 cars in 2010 the MX-5 Owners Club has again been invited to attend The Silverstone Classic's 2011 event, which runs from 22nd to the 24th July, thus firmly establishing our marque as a "modern classic".

Last year's event was attended by a record 80,000 people, making it Silverstone's second largest event after the Grand Prix.  Many enthusiasts consider it better than a GP, since visitors are free to walk around the pits, inspect the cars and chat with their owners.  We were even allowed to wander around the pit lane stand on the pit wall to watch the races - just like in the good old days of Grand Prix!

The first key ingredient of this event is a feast of world class nostalgic motor racing, across all decades from the 1920s to the 1990s, featuring over 800 classic racing cars, including such great names as Ferrari, Maserati, ERA and Auto Union; Bentley, Jaguar, Aston Martin and Porsche; Cooper, Tyrell, March, and Lotus, all competing in 20 races over the 3 days, including a Le Mans style dusk race.  The Silverstone Classic is not totally historic, as it includes more contemporary races, such as Group C, Saloons, Super Touring Cars and late Formula One cars being raced and seen in their appropriate surroundings.

The second key ingredient is the great assembly of classic cars from the extensive list of over 120 Owners' Clubs across the UK and overseas; over 6000 cars were on display across the event period in 2010.

The Silverstone Classic will also be the first race event to utilise the new paddock area, giving you the chance to have a first look before the Formula One Grand Prix.

Things to look forward to at this year's event.

Whoopee. 3 Day tickets booked already and looking forward to a great 'Classic.

Was a mere visitor last year so was unable to park inside circuit.

Noticed that email confirmation referred to 'Car Club (MX2)', so I might be in a special area on my own. Typical. Must think I'm an Old Git - oh, I am!

Last years confirmation emails had (MX2) on them as well so I would not worry. I have also ordered my tickets for the 4th year running and still look forward to it.

I'm sure that last year you could get a ticket including car entry for 2 adults for the 3 days for £80.

Looking at the above it looks like 2 adults would be £160 - is that right?

    Re: Silverstone Classic 22nd - 24th July

I was not sure when I looked at the website so to make sure I phoned up to order my tickets and quoting the MX-5 club code (C11027) you will get the 2 for 1 deal. So I was charged  £43.20 for each 3 day ticket which included a £2.00 transaction fee. There was also anothe £2.00 on the final bill which is probably for postage, so totalled £88.40, but still good value for x2  3day tickets.

A three day pass is £80, that gives you two adult tickets and one car pass per day.

We have 350 spaces, but if we sell more tickets before the end of June they will give us a bigger plot.

For those of you wishing to camp over the weekend, club members can take advantage of the dedicated camping area on the outfield between Woodcote and Copse corners, adjacent to the competitor's campsite, for just £10 per person per night. Facilities include use of showers and toilets. Electrical hook up is also available at cost. Spaces can be booked when purchasing event admission tickets.
