I always thought something like this sounded plausible but never realised it was actually available:
Electric Induction kit
Not exactly a Super Charger obviously, but maybe compete with the various free(er) flow intake systems?
On the other hand, beef up the battery (and generator?) and put a more powerful electric motor on it

Nope, just a gimmick - will categorically NOT give you any more power, probably less.

andyelcomb:will categorically NOT give you any more power
Surely you jest?!?
How can you say that after the replies this hair dryer Electric supercharger suppler has had from happy customers?
Such endorsements as "wos very satisfied with this company and would recomend them to frends and faimy" from "supersykes" (Who I believe is currently holding the position of resident professor of linguistics for Oxford university).
Or "joelm1988" who took time out from writing his latest scientific paper on the effects of micro gravity on single cell organisms to stat most eloquently "AWESOME....WELL PLEASED !" (Note his use of upper case letters to emphasise exactly how "Well pleased" he is).
So, With such shining recommendations from these fine upstanding persons how can you say that this product won't provide extra power?
I think you should go sit on the naughty step and think about what you've said.
Scotty B.
............On second thoughts, It is entirely possible that joelm1988 and supersykes could just be "Max Power" reading fuc*wits who wouldn't know the difference between seeing a well made and effective aftermarket tuning part and having hedgehogs fired out of an air cannon at their pink middle wickets. I'm not saying that this is the case, But it's one possibility that we should think about.

You could always get a shed load and fit them underneath and turn one into a hover car
Think of the fuel you would save

It would certainly suck.
My understanding is that a standard car's electrical system cannot supply enough juice to turn the supercharge in any meaningful way. These ebay scams are all built on a kernal of a truth. The Spiralmax, and its imitators was "inspired" by an insert that GM used in a turbo-charged version of the Buick Regal. Similarly, I guess we will see a resurgence of these electric superchargers with the news that Borg-Warner has been working on such a device, and BMW will be using an electric supercharger-like system in an upcoming car. But of course, these will bear no resemblance whatsover to the kits assembled from about £40 worth of off the shelf components that these scamsters will be pushing.
The system that got closest to being taking seriously was the system developed by one Thomas Knight. His interview to a"serious" tuning magazine sounded plausible:
http://www.turbomagazine.com/tech/0406tur_knight_turbo_electric_supercharger/index.html
Note; he claimed a "nitrous like" effect; the supercharger was powered from seperate batteries; he reckoned 4 "standard" batteries would be needed in addition, to give about 10-15 seconds of boost. So think of the boot being filled with 5 batteries. There's no indication if an extra battery or 2 will be needed for winter or night time driving. There is a suggestion that if you get some sort of magical, super efficient alternator, you could reduce the number of batteries. So someone will need to figure out how to fit, say, a 2011 Mondeo alternator into a 1990 MX5..... Too many ifs.
Better minds than mine have looked at this kit, and have determined it can generate some boost, but it will have a really hard time getting over 4-5PSI.
If anyone is tempted, you can buy his serious electric centrifugal supercharger (though looking at the prices, why would you), as a generic kit that you somehow fit, or buy the Eaton version, again, not in a MX5-specific configuration. Its not clear what you get for your £3000; doesn't looking the batteries are included, but you might get some wires:
http://theboosthead.blogspot.com/p/pricing.html
Of course, boffin types might decide to get one of these used/half-inched ex-Mini Eatons, and hook it up to a cordless drill motor, and take it from there.....
