    Diff Broken

Firstly hello this is my first post so be gentle, i have a L reg'd 1.8 engine in a kit car, thought the diff had shot so took it down to my local Mazda and the confirmed it had.

The Question is, is the process of replacing it with a LSD  a straight foreward one or is there a lot more to think about apart from cost, Also where do you guys buy all your bits from as i have seen a few on Ebay.

    Thanks.

All you need to know about MX5 diffs:

    http://www.miata.net/garage/diff_rr.html

    http://www.miata.net/garage/diffguide/index.html

90-93 manual 1.6 Eunos Roadsters were fitted with viscous limited slip diffs; Mazda never called this a LSD, but a sports diff.

Most, but not all, 93+ 1.8 Eunos Roadsters were fitted with Torsen differentials (4.300 final drive T2 from 1996).

    Diff upgrades are very common.

The usual places to source a used diff is any of the MX5 specialist breakers; MX5heaven, Autolinkuk, PJ Sportscars (Shardlow) etc. Most Mk2 UK 1.8 MX5s will have a Torsen diff fitted. From 2002, a weak Fuji SuperLSD was used on Sport models.

    Re: Diff Broken

Are any of you familiar with how the MX5 diff fits onto a SR2 Roadrunner kit car? We have removed all the bolts we can see and it looks like the diff is now sat on/over a tube that appears to be part of the chassis.  This tube goes up into the rear of the 2 front monuting holes. We have tried lifting the diff off with an engine crane with some "persuassion" but no joy! Are there just 4 bolts in total? The 2 in the "wings" and the 2 at the front or are we missing something?

    Re: Diff Broken

Ok spotted a Torsen type 2 LSD diff 3.9 ratio apparentley fitted to JDM RS models, any one tell me a little bit more on these diffs? Thought i'd go for a 3.9 ratio over the 4.1 that i already have as its quick enough 0-60 with a little turbo on the side.
