 Cars In The Park, Beacon Park, Lichfield. Saturday 30^th June, Sunday 1^st July

With the approval of the Area Co-ordinators I am now able to invite you all to Cars In The Park 2012. Having been involved with this event for many years it’s a lovely weekend, especially if the sun shines, and this year in addition to the other club stands I already help organise, I have reserved one for the MX5 Owners Club.

Held over two days, the event is run by The Rotary Club and this year it’s supporting the Midlands Air Ambulance, a very worthy charity and one to which some of my other car clubs already contribute.

Although this sadly coincides with the Blyton Track Day, the two are likely to appeal to different interests and although CITP is essentially a “Park & Polish” event, there’s always a very large turnout of various vehicles and something of interest for car enthusiasts of all kinds. The visitor numbers, particularly on the Sunday, can sometimes be vast.

I have booked a stand for 25 cars on both days, to be split equally between North East Midlands (of which I’m a member) and North West Midlands (as I’m an honorary MXican)

Although Sunday is by far the busiest day, we do need to have a presence on the Saturday in order to secure a good pitch for the weekend. However this year sees Lichfield play host to the Olympic Torch on the Saturday and with additional events happening in the City that day, the park is likely to be busier than normal. The City, it’s shops and wonderful cathedral are just a short walk from the park.

I am looking for MX5’s of all types and standards. Don’t be put off by the nature of the weekend, you do not need to have a pristine motor to attend, better that it has a use and even better if it has a story to tell. You are always welcome and encouraged to display any history, event pictures, trophies etc alongside your pride and joy. All cars are welcome but I would like a mix of models, specs, etc. There are no prizes for cars on display, but there is an award for best club stand so that’s one thing to consider.

Entry is free of charge but we will be making a collection for the chosen charity. I will need names, model, colour and registration number for those wishing to attend, along with your chosen days in order of preference please as we may need to limit space on each day. Please mention if your car is “extra special” as I will try and arrange some PR for us in the run up to the show and in the event programme.

Those exhibiting will be required to have cars on the stand by 9.30 am latest each day and are not permitted to leave until around 4pm dependant on the crowds.

I would welcome any help on both days as it would be nice to try and attract new members etc. If either area can supply Gazebos, banners, flags etc that would be great, help in getting them there etc would be even better.

As space is limited please don’t register an interest unless genuinely attending as each year we see several spaces at the last the minute and people who are disappointed at missing out.

Many Thanks for the open-invite to the Litchfield Weekend.

I am aware of the date-clash with Blyton, but the Litchfield event seems more appropriate, particularly since I can only attend on the Sunday.

I am a member of the NEM group, having owned my '93 Series 1 V-Spec Eunos 1.8 since import from Japan in 2008. The car is Racing Green with a tan interior.

Hi Folks, quick update, So far I have got 6 for the Sunday and just a couple for Saturday. I have also got a couple of non MX entries as I also have space for other vehicles of interest. I have got a list running and will post it on here nearer the time. If anyone wants more info I'm happy for them to call or PM me. Thanks, Steve  

Dropping a note in here to get a thread subscription running. Am interested in attending as not far from Derby and have friends in lichfield but not sure what day yet and what other commitments we have that weekend. I'll post up if and when I can confirm but seems like an interesting weekend.

Quick Update:

We now have 8 for the Sunday and 3 for the Saturday, everyone who has mailed me so far is on the list. I will post full entrants nearer the time. 

I have also had entries from non MX vehicles for our other stands which is great, so if you have an interesting car, custom van, classic motorbike, truck, tank anything that drives, please let me know.

Did you do the Donington Classic in the end mate?

With just 4 weeks left to go I am now getting some good entries, so thanks to those who've "joined up" so far.

I will shortly be opening up space to non-mazda entries as I'm getting enquiries from some of my motorsport buddies, so please get on the list if you are planning to go.

As always Sunday is getting busy and the MXicanS are outdoing the NEM, we even have a Phoenix so come on chaps, ignore the weather, get the picnic blanket washed, the deck chairs dusted off and come join us.

UPDATE 11TH JUNE:

Club passes now received and I will email these out just before the event so please make sure I have your details as requested, by PM or Email.

No pass, no place on club stand.

For those without email I will make other arrangements nearer the time.
