    MX5 Mk 1 alarm

    Hello All MX5 Owners,

This is my first post.  Having been banned by wife of returning to motor cycles I obtained a 1991 MK1 from a family friend ten years ago and it has now only just run up 26k miles from new.  It has been a perfect summer 'toy' though having passed my three score years and ten it is getting more difficult to climb out of the car.  As a long retired Chartered Engineer who did all the maintenance work on my vehicles I have now had to cut back on these activities.  My MX5 has been totally reliable over its 21yr life until now when a fault has developed with the Mazda fitted optional alarm. It took a while for me to locate the alarm control unit.  All I need now is the circuit diagram for the installation so that I can return it to the standard configuration without the alarm in circuit and any other available data on this Mazda sytem marked 2096 on the control unit.  The actual fault is only that the hazard warning indicator lights now remain ON and I have to disconnect the battery, but can not drive it in that state.  Obviously one of the PC mounted switches which activates the alarm warning flashes has stuck closed but all the other functions are OK. (I am not impressed by workmanship which went in to the fitting by Mazda UK of this alarm system .)

If anyone can give advice or provide a copy of the wiring in and circuit diagrams it would be much appreciated and I could share my experience for the benefit of other drivers.  I would of course pay for any help that can be provide

Waiting in eager hope for some response when I can provide contact details.

I don't know about the optional alarm, but the workshop manual has the standard wiring diagrams.

It can be found here: http://www.roadsterclub.be/index.php/downloads/werkplaatshandleiding

Beware this is for the US version, so there may be some differences here and there.

Unless the car is a Green Limited Edition, the alarm would have been fitted at the dealership. It sounds like a Finishline system. There were no wiring diagrams as such just fitting instructions. It was just a plug and play affair so you should be able to follow all the wires back and disconnect it. If it had the immobiliser you'll have to re-join the vehicle wires for that. The full spec system had about 3 or 4 separate control modules.
