Re: stick on number plate
hi bodie, looks very nice, was there much to do, getting rid of the original no plate fixing holes, or did you just stick over them, also was it hard to stretch your new number over the curves, and still keep an even straight line.

Re: stick on number plate
Hi Leemarb,
I stuck it over the original holes, can't even tell they were there. Going over the curves of the bumper is a nightmare, will need to order another one at some point to have another go but for the minute it's not bad! I think it makes the front end look fresher

Re: stick on number plate
Technically no they are not legal, but ought to be really unlike plastic plates and plinths which break and fall off very easily these are a lot more `permanent`. I have stick-ons on both our Eunos Roadster and Mk1 and both are fine as far as two separate MOT stations are concerned. Police all over the country dont seem too bothered either.....
Am going to add that I firmly believe the main reason for making people have upright BSAU approved front plates is to make it easier for `speeding tax` sneaky camera vans to read them at longer distances, so good enough reason on its own to have a stick-on.
I have also noticed with a few `speed limit reminder` electronic boards around here that they notice Mk1s a lot easier and sooner if the headlamps are up (radar reflection again....)

Yes, definitely a market for a radar absorbing paint finish and a low radar signature shape nose!

Re: stick on number plate
They're sort of legal on pre-2001 cars. Technically I don't think you're supposed to fit a sticky plate now, but a pre-existing sticky plate - and no-one can tell when it was first put there -was "tolerated" under the law.
On a post-2001 car it's definitely wrong as the plate must meet British Standard, and it won't. You'd probably never get pulled up on it though, as the MoT only checks spacing and condition, not the type of plate.

Both my MOT men have said, as long as they can read it from the MOT bay when its outside waiting to come in then its a pass

Re: stick on number plate
I know what you mean about trying to stick it around the curves. Thats why I went for moving the badge up onto the bonnet and re sticking it on with silicon sealant. My plate went on without any issues using water and a bit of baby shampoo to allow it to slip into position. I think the plate position gives it a more classic look without drawing too much attention from law enforcers.

Re: stick on number plate
Heres an `E-Type` look I prepared earlier.....

Just spent most of the day converting the USA spec E-Type V12 5.3 to right-hand drive, a task not for the faint-hearted
