Re: Geometry Day (£30) Sunday 29th July 2012
Ahh yeah. Makes sense then. Depending on which tyres you're after I've found 16's to come up more expensive than 17's in some instances. Always worthy bit of shopping around though eh.
Think the 15's are a bargain for me then, so working on the basis that the Toyo's seem to have largely positive feedback for use on 5's - so I think I might confirm the order and take them for fitting at the event too. (Dave was fine with that).
Must admit I was really impressed with the setup down at STS when I popped by earlier and they really know they're stuff. Extremely helpful guys.
Does anyone know if there is a standard or recommended setup for the toe/camber angles etc.? Or is that a whole other can of worms and down to personal preference and/or an element of trial and error?

For a lowered car (less than 355mm rear and 337mm front, measured vertically from the wheel arch lip to the centre of the wheel), I'd set it to, or as near as it'll go to:-
Rear $*1%' Total Toe In -%*"£ Camber
Front #*-+' Total Toe In -[*^%' Camber !*?|' Caster
Some use similar settings for standard height cars. If you post your ride height I can give you the Mazda spec, which I think works well enough. Google "Lanny Settings" if you want to read some discussion on wheel alignment settings.
Nice wheels BTW!

Re: Geometry Day (£30) Sunday 29th July (2 Places Left)
Hi Kevin,
How does the day pan out...... is there a time 'slot' for each member or do we turn up a wait ?
Looking forward to getting my car's geometry checked over as my wife and I have a 3 week road trip around northern Italy in September.
Cheers
David

Hi David
I am currently working with Kieron at STS to sort out a schedule for the day, as you can imagine organising 20 wheel alignments and various other jobs takes a bit of planning.
We work on half hour slots for the alignment but obviously have to take into consideraton the other work as well. There will be plenty going on during the day so feel free to come and spend as long as you like.
I will post up the schedule as soon as its done.
Regards
Kevin

Re: Geometry Day (£30) Sunday 29th July (2 Places Left)
hi Kevin
I think I have to pull out of this brilliant opportunity as I have just stacked the car with suspension damage - bugger (on many fronts!)
Please release my slot and fill it if at all possible. Sorry for the late notice - accidents are a little unpredictable by nature.
Have a good everyone!
cheers
Rick

Robbie,
Thanks for the help! - all sounds very scientific to me. Looking forward to getting everything setup nicely though. I bet the current settings are all over the place on my car. I've just measured the distances from arch to wheel centre and it seems to be approx 337mm front and back.
The rear still has (yellow) Bilstein shocks, but the front shocks were worn so replaced with what appears to be a standard product, just before I bought the car. Does that explain why the front doesn't sit lower than the rear now? Or is it the springs that determine the ride height? (Please excuse my ignorance on this part). When the car was up in the air at STS last week one of the guys wondered if the rears might be adjustable/coilovers? Not sure if that's relevant.
Thanks for the feedback on the wheels. Just don't look too closely at them as they are definitely I need of a refurb. Hope to get that done ready for next Summer. Just ordered a set of 4 Toyo
Proxes T1Rs (195\50 R15) from TyreTraders.com, for the STS guys to fit on the day. Got them for £143.67 including VAT and delivery from TyreTraders.com which is about £50 cheaper than some other quotes I received. (Just hope they arrive in time!)
Look forward to seeing you (ALL) at the Geometry Day! Jamie

Re: Geometry Day (£30) Sunday 29th July 2012
Sorry Kevin, I'm going to have to pull out too. I still haven't had a chance to change my springs and I know I won't have time before the event so there'll be no point in me having the alignment done. This has turned into a busy time of year for me.
Hopefully you'll fill the slot quickly.
