my utube DIY guide to headlamp air vent

This is my utube guide for hints and tips to making a headlamp air vent to aid cool air to air filter.

I know its simple DIY but some people won't have attempted bodywork. I dont know how much air it delivers but every little bit helps i guess.

Good video; NACA headlamp ducts are incredibly controversial in the MX5 Miata world; whether a recessed duct works, whether a raised scoop works better. Revlimiter posted this to demonstrate a recessed duct working:

The debate is all about high and low pressure areas. Many years ago, after studying the debate, I opted for a raised scoop approach, with the original Rover Metro intake (hillclimbing so didn't really care how it looked)

The lid was then passed onto other owners, tweaked, and probably now sits in someone's shed.

I replaced it with a purpose made Dcuatro scoop, about the time I gave upon the Hillclimbing lark.

    But DIY is fun.

    Looks lovely!

Where did you get the preformed air scoop from? I'm getting an induction kit and I'm worried about the temp under the bonnet.

Also how much did it cost you in the end to D.I.Y?

I like to do as much as much as I can myself in my tiny garage!

     hi

I bought my air vent from " car builder solutions " . £12 plus postage. Try the link hopefully it goes to the right place. They have lots of other interesting bits and pieces so worth a look.

There are a few duct sizes and shapes ,i think i chose that one because it fits neatly behind the head lamp. I think i cut a protruding hinge bolt a bit shorter as well.

On top of buying the vent you would need a small tin of  body filler , fibre glass ,primer, and then your top paint colour. i already had my paint from repairing a wheel arch.
