get hold of either mk2 or 2.5 ones they are smooth, look so much better.....it remove them be very carefull. Use a small flat bladed screwdriver to push the middle tab in  and gently lift each one, go and have a good look you will see what i mean.

Re: Door to glass weather strip

An old credit card etc will work, pushing slowly along under the strip until you hit the clips, as Muppet as said it is a number off plastic clips that hold it in place along the door skin and is kind of spring loaded in the centre and that is what is keeping it in place, there are two plastic lugs that hold them in place also at each end that folds around to the inner edge, these need to be popped first, but the strips are coated in rubber, and it is the rubber that is flaking off now showing the metal that should be hidden, put them in the bin and get some new ones or a good set of S/hand ones ,trust me you will be wasting your time trying to repair the old ones.

Mine need replacing soon too, or the door will start to rust. Trouble is at £100 a pair incl postage, it seems pretty pricey for what it is.

However, mx5parts has 10% off those parts right now if you're doing it anyway...
