Raindrops keep falling on my lap, they keep falling [Fixed]

    Hi all

I'm  very much enjoying my Mk2 MX5, which I've had for coming up to 2 months now. What I'm not so keen on it the little spray of water I get across my lap coming from the window  when cornering after a heavy rainfall.

Let me explain the problem in a little more detail.  Water sits in the orange section (see photo below), the  water will then shoot out from the joint between orange and blue sections. If the rain is heavy and persistent the water can also drip from the joint between orange and green. To deal with this I've taken to keeping a kitchen towel in the glove box and peeling  the orange section back so I can catch the water in the towel before it manages to find its way to my lap.

I'm not sure if this can be sorted without replacing the hood, I saw something about foam fillers on this forum, but I couldn't follow where it went and I'm totally unsure where I'd source some.

Any advice would be great, thanks in advance.

If you look above the pillar of the quarter light on the car body, you should see a small catch tray.  There is a drainhole for this which runs through the centre of the door seal.  Check this is not blocked by carefully threading a curtain wire through it.  Then check by pouring some water down, it should emerge at the bottom of the seal.

The problem would be considerably less bad if the roof wasn't split right there...but yes, it should drain away.

Thanks both, when you talk about drainage holes, do you mean these?  I cleard them no too long ago, and it stopped water in my boot, but not from sitting in the rubber seals.

Pop the front latches on the windscreen top rail. There are forward drain holes there that run right down the screen pillars.

Re: Raindrops keep falling on my lap, they keep falling

Hi Again, after playing with the hood seal retainers I've eliviated the problem ever so slightly. I'm still to try filling the seals with foam, but it's looking more and more like I'll need to stump up for a new hood.

Is there a good supplier/fitter of hoods near Portsmouth? I've looked at MX5-Parts, but even factoring in £60 worth of petrol to get to swansea Jack Smiths still looks like a far better option.

I seem to have fixed the leak! following a suggestion I glazed all the seals with Vaseline. I was testing my tweaks with a 1L bottle, currently even with a bucket of water none is getting in.
