    Immobiliser/Alarm is faulty (Finishline system?)

Hey guys, when I bought my 1.6 mk1 the previous owner told me about the immobilser which had been fitted by another P/O, but that he had never used it himself. Edit: Turns out it's a Finishline system, I think from a nwer model but put into this '91?

Since I've had the car I've never used it properly, basically because I didn't know how it worked. Can anyone tell me how it is meant to work properly?

After some digging around I found the connection to the button under the steering column was dodgy, traced the wire back to the black 'MAZDA 2096' box and disconnected it thinking it may help - didn't.

By touching the ends of this wire though the system still worked, that's how it is currently, though it is a pain since it doesn't always work. How do I repair the system properly and tidily?

Or is it possible/recommended to remove the system entirely? At the moment the battery is getting drained a lot by playing around with it, so need a solution ASAP.

All replies welcome, thanks for reading I know it was long winded.

    Dan.

    Some photos, hopefully better explained:

This brown wire originally went to a red push button under the steering column. The other end goes to the BLACK (Not light) Mazda box on the right hand side.

This button had also perplexed me since I got the car:

The wires, pink and grey, from the button lead under the centre console and also to the black Mazda box:
