How much for a decent respray?

Car has dings, scratches, swirls and slightly different coloured panels where previous repairs have been done.  All these defects are nicely enhanced every time  I clean, polish and wax it!

Just wondered what advise there is about how much one needs to pay for a decent respray job or recomendations for a good body shop.  I have seen resprays where the paint starts peeling around the edges of panels etc and has dirt bumps in it, so I'm a bit hesitant to lay out the cash.

Also is there a recommendation for a particular type of paint, celulose, epoxy, acrylic, etc. What are the pros and cons?

    I'm located in sunny Watford.

Be prepared for it to cost considerably more than the cost of buying a car with good bodywork in the first place. It will almost certainly be quicker and cheaper to sell up and find a better example.

I've had two cars repainted, with good results for between £800-1200. As for the choice of paint, I leave that to the sprayer.

I was very happy with this, painted by a sprayers, arranged through Autolinkuk (£800); sprayer was based in a unit attached to the Vauxhall dealer in nearby Winchester.

Yep. It was beginning to dawn on me that this may be the case. I only paid £1100 for the car, but have spent around £500 on, (new rad, new hoses, water pump, timing belt and tensioner, auxillery belts, headlamps ), so caught in the middle so to speak.

Looks like  a properly proper job there!

Thanks. I may drive over and let them have a look since they're only about 15 miles form me.

Another point I should add is that the wheels have been hand painted with silver Hammerite. As long as you're more than 6 feet away, it doen't show too much.

I think one thing to remember is that any money spent on your 5 enhancing it only makes your enjoyment better and as long as the jobs you've had done been done well the car will hold its money Big Smile
