MK1 MX5 1.6 engines interchangeable?

    MK1 MX5 1.6 engines interchangeable?

    Hey all,

    It may sound like a silly question but are these units interchangeable? I've got a 4 hole pulley (early) 1.6 engine that i'm looking to swap to a later 115HP 8 hole version to avoid the crank balance issue. Are all the ancilliary components interchangeable also like alternator, starter, distributer etc?

    Any steer greatly appreciated,

    Yes and no....or rather yes, yes, and I'm not sure.

    Yes an entire engine will slot right in. Yes most of the ancillaries will be identical. Not sure if the ECU will be compatible or will need to come from the donor car.

    Oh and...erm...no, this will definitely not fit on an mx5 engine of any kind. Smile

     The short nose engine can be changed for a later 115bhp engine as a straight swap.

     

    If you are not having issues with the front pulley on the shortnose engine you are wasting time and money though
