    a272 hampshire

between the west meon hut and petersfield is about 10miles but when the traffic is thin and the weather is nice you cant beat it :-)

i hope i die peacefully in my sleep, like my grandfather did, not screeming in blind panic like the passenger in his car did

I agree BUT it is also very popular with motorbikes (I ride one as well as an MX5).  There have been several accidents along this road therefore the boys in blue take a keen interest!!!!!!

The A272 is probably the best road I've ever had the pleasure of regularly travelling along.

My particular favourite stretch is between Petworth and Wisborough Green, through the woods, although the whole thing is pretty good fun.

I remember coming back from Brighton in the middle of the night one Christmas - with the roof down it was some kind of motoring epiphany Wink

You can buy a book about the A272 (An Ode to a Road)...it's about the interesting sights near the route more than about driving on it.

The A32 and A339 are also fun roads around there to make some sort of circuit.

Couldn't agree more - brilliant stretch of road. My route to the Goodwood breakfast meets includes this part of the A272 - love it, unless I get stuck behind a caravan...

I sometimes drive on the A272 from Horsham to/from Winchester and get paid 45p per mile expenses for it... that's the way to run an MX5.

    Re: a272 hampshire

A great road, the wife and I test drove a MK 2 some 13 years ago from Chandlers Ford Mazda (gone now I believe), and as the the sales man said "take as long as you like....we did....all the way to Petersfield and back. What a hoot, we were sold....she said I could buy one....I went into raptures, spent the next 2 weeks working out what speck I wanted, and I kid you not 2 days before I was due to put the money down she said the words.....yes you guessed it...."I'm Pregnant !"....the MX5 dream bubble was burst....We bought a Volvo V70 !......but now some 13.5 years later the dream is no longer......since 04/02/12 proud owner of a Black 06 plate that will soon be having a blast up the A272....but this time will go onto Petworth etc....a great drive. maybe better in the winter as the bikers are fewer and less likely to try and impale themselves on the trees/your bumper !
