Automobile [au] Suggested activities for 2010

I know it's early, but it's time to get your thinking caps on. We've had a good year in 2009 but next year needs to be even better so stick your ideas here and we will arrange our 2010 calendar at the January 2010 meeting.

    Re: Suggested activities for 2010

    A couple of ideas

    - A tech day-type event but focusing on cleaning/detailing/rust protection. I discussed this with a few people at the last meeting and there seemed to be some interest. The main hurdle is finding a suitable venue.

    - Visit to the RAF Museum, Hendon (I like aeroplanes!).

I only suggested Hendon because it's a lot nearer (for North Thames).

Good suggestion Andy, but do we have a technical expert available

I'm no technical expert but happy to share what I do know, I've got a few bits and pieces as you know and will be more than willing to use them on the day. Speaking of 'the day' it will be preferable to do it once the weather warms up a bit after winter - not ideal to do it in the cold or damp; still that depends on the venue. Maybe Fergy will be out of hibernation by then; he's got a bit of kit too!

By the way, Hendon would be good - did a flying visit (boom boom) there a few years ago and it was good (and free as I recall).
Duxford is always a good visit too

    Re: Suggested activities for 2010

    Hi Folks!

Just an idea but a couple of years ago I did an indoor skydiving day! We went upto the ex military place in Bedford (can't remember the name of it)! I've also been to the one at Milton Keynes but this was'nt quite as good and was also more expensive.

Thought this might be a good thing to do in either the first part of the year or later in the year when the weather is'nt so good.

and everyone else can go in front of meConfused

Was that at Bodyflight, Bedford??  See here.  http://www.bodyflight.co.uk/index.html

I'll put it on the list to see if there's any interest, Paul.
Maybe you can suggest suitable dates and a scenic route up there..

How about a trip to a motor museum? The only ones I can think of are Beaulieu and Heritage Motor museum. Only problem is they're both miles away, and the Heritage one is pants!! Are there any a bit closer to home?

    Re: Suggested activities for 2010

     Hi Eric,

many years ago, as a member of the Civil Services Motoring Association, I visited the Police Driving School in Chelmsford and spent some time on their skid pan. This was probably the most useful day's driving tuition I have ever had since passing my driving test.

We were instructed in an old car on a wet and dry road, with good and bad tyres too, then we used our own cars on the skid pan.

I will see if this is still somewthing that Essex police do for car clubs.

    Re: Suggested activities for 2010

Hi Mike.  I checked this out a couple of weeks ago.  Essex Police no longer have a skid pan.  They use one run by All Motor Training at Silver End.

They do 'Corporate' Days but I haven't had a chance to phone them to see how much the cost and when they are available.
