    Both.

What an alarmingly poorly phrased question. Both countries have produced truely excellent cars, as well as shockingly bad ones. As have many other countries. Not just according to me, but according to everyone.

As for who produces the "good" cars  that is an entirely subjective question as "good" doesn't really mean anything. Fastest is just a number, and hugely depends on the conditions under which it's measured. Fastest in a straight line? Fastest round a track? Fastest inside the Camouflaged Learning warehouse? The last one is German - a 535 at 30mph.

Most new cars today are developed by international teams, and have components sourced world wide.

I'm very happy with our Mk5 TDI. It doesn't have anything approaching the "sporting" pretensions of the much nimbler Mk1 GTI but as a family car it is comfortably efficient. The quality of the materials used in the construction is good and it seems fairly well put together. Ours was built in Mosel, although I understand that some of the Belgian-built Mk5s were not too cracky.

Technically the Wartburg, as we knew it, wasn't produced by Germany, but by the DDR. The name "Wartburg" was a brand owned by pre-war BMW. The BMW Wartburg was Germany's first sportscar, and was a sweet little car

That's a gorgeous little car, and I thought colour coding was a modern invention.

I'd love one of those - please tell me it's not a two stroke Shock

Technically based on an Austin Seven.

Are you sure? I know the Dixie was basically a Seven built under license, but that looks quite different to the Dixie.

The engine was derived from an Austin. I dare say the chassis would look very Austinish. back then, it was easy to change the shape of a car, with some canvas, wood and bit of leather.

True, the Seven was available in a variety of bodysyles, from two-seater open top roadster to 4 seater fully enclosed sedan. They have a wide variety of examples in the Heritage Museum in Gaydon, including a Dixie.

Most of the pictures of Dixies that I have seen up to the early thirties would suggest thay tend to be more Brum than Beemer, although a few seem to have a more stylish, curved front with a tall version of the BMW kidney grill.
