Yes we do care Gareth, but some things we cannot fix ourselves, we have to rely on the support people, and we all know what some of that genre can be like!!!!

You can keep moaning on about how bad the forum software is, but as I have said before, it's what we have got and I don't believe that going back to the old stuff is the answer. A hell of a lot of new users are praising the new forum for it's ease of navigation and intuitiveness. I believe that only about 6 of you guys are actually moaning and the rest are getting on with there lives on the forum

    Re: Issues following upgrade?

Oh, stop being so sensitive, Geoff. My last post to this thread wasn't moaning - it was flagging up a problem that I'd encountered. If the forum admin team consider problem reports to be "moaning", then it's a sorry state of affairs.

Perhaps there are 'only' about 6 members criticising the new forum software - but what about the people who came, saw, went "ugh!" and buggered off again?

And as for "ease of navigation and intuitiveness" - hah! What's intuitive about a system where new members have to be explicitly instructed how to get simple paragraph breaks into posts?!

As I see it, this website/forum and STHT are the two things that define the club in terms of how it's perceived by the wider world - they're the "faces" of the club, if you like. STHT is a force to be reckoned with, and a credit to those who produce it. But the bottom line is that the forum software (*not* the administration or the quality of the content, before anyone comes over all indignant and starts to jump up and down) is letting the club down. If you think that's acceptable, then say so and I won't bother flagging up any more problems with it.

That doesn't sound like a moan about forum software, more a dig at everybody who is involved in trying to get this thing working properly

    Re: Issues following upgrade?

It was more of an observation, than anything else - two days since I posted a report about a forum feature that appeared as though it might have issues, and not so much as a "we're looking into it" ...

I've said before, and will say again, I have no major gripe with the administration of this forum (you're doing what you can, I'm sure, with the tools you've been given - but as far as the software goes you simply can't be expected to polish a turd). Neither do I have any issues with the forum content - quite the opposite, in the short time I've been a forum member I've found a lot of help among the forum posts.

Hi Gareth I appreciate your positive comments, I must tell you that as far as the forum and the support people are concerned the only point of contact, at least on an official and technical level, is Martin Curtiss. He's away for a few days and will not have seen this current crop of complaints. I'm sure that he will respond when he returns.

    Why?

What happened when you tried to sign in as a club member?

    Re: Issues following upgrade?

it kept telling me my forum membership had not been activated - strange since i had been using it since becoming a member in september 07!!! i did all the delete cookies stuff etc. recommended by martin but all to no avail - it has been incredibly frustrating to be perfectly honest. i am not knocking the administrators or anyone else for that matter - but looking at it logically if it ain't broke why try to fix it???!!!!!

    Re: Issues following upgrade?

p.s. my computer logs me into the site automatically and i can get onto the forums but on a read only basis, so in the end i did the sign up as a forum only member and then all was well, so that is the reason for me having taken that course of action.

    Re: Issues following upgrade?

So, to clarify, you get a message saying:

    Forum account not activated

Your forum account is not currently enabled. You can still browse the forum, but you will only have read access.
    Continue to the forum

If so, PM Martin, he can sort it for you

    Re: Issues following upgrade?

Angry Second attempt at making this post, because the first time around I got the old favourite :

    Server Error in '/' Application.

    The resource cannot be found.

Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.  Please review the following URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly.

    Requested URL: /forums/p/2179/13957.aspx

    Anyway ...

    Gareth:
My "posts you haven't read" searches are missing things out.

This is still happening. My thread about my binding brake caliper issues received two replies since I last logged into the forum last night, and it didn't appear in the list of "posts you haven't read" when I logged in this morning.

Please could this be sorted out ASAP?

    Re: Issues following upgrade?

The error that you recieved I think would have been because the database entry had not been committed before you/the forum tried to reload the thread to view the post - it (obviously) should not happen though, so I'll make sure it gets looked at.

Your other issue is a very peculiar one, and I'd like to know if anybody else is noticing this.

Who were the users that posted the 'stealth' replies - perhaps they can enlighten us a bit further.

    Re: Issues following upgrade?

They weren't "stealth" replies - they're perfectly visible in the topic (the posts from BigPete and Stockna). They just didn't show up in my "haven't read" list when they should've done.
