Is their any body out there

     Hi All

Is it just me or does any body else think the Yorkshire Riding's site doesn't get used a lot  . I joined the mx5 club about sixteen months ago and thought this site would be where you get all the information about outings and all other things what goes off in the Yorkshire region .You can look at the amount of views at the topics and there is a lot of people out there .Wouldn't this site be better than Yahoo or any  other site come to that . Please let me know

    Many Thanks

    Martin

     Hi,

I am not to sure about their day to day contribution .One thing I have to give them a lot of credit for is their post run photos and accompanying music.I often log onto their section of the club to see the latest episode.Well done Lads and Lasses from Yorkshire, very entertaining.

You are right the club website is not used as the main means of communication unfortunately.

    Try http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/nemx5oc/

    or for the photos:

     Hi Martin,

Welcome to Ridings, sorry I missed you at Croft (I went to the 29.9.10 meeting with Col & Shan)

Ridings use the yahoo web site for communicating see http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/nemx5oc/

You can view, but worth joining the group.  Some also also use facebook, but I don't have an account.

Check the photo site  http://yrmx5oc.magix.net/ that ANDy mentions, to see what goes on.

There is a run this Sunday see Yahoo site or http://yr.mx5oc.co.uk/upcoming_events.html I'm on standby for work so can't make this run.  Contact the AC Mick Gauntlett details on http://yr.mx5oc.co.uk/ if you want to go on this run. Run has been adjusted because of weather, so keep checking Yahoo for updates.

There is usually a run every month (or 2/month in summer) and social meetings every 2nd Wed in the month.

The AGM should be in Jan.  It loks like there will be some vacancies on the committee if you are interested.

    Hope to see you soon,

    George

As a newbie, I must say that it does seem odd that an Area of the MX Owners Club uses an outside provider as the means of communication with members.  Is there a simple explanation which I am missing?

Yes, don't see the point in using a mis-named Yahoo Group (North East Midlands?) when a dedicated area has been provided on the OC forum (and here we are).

I applied for membership of the Yahoo Group over 18 months ago and have yet to receive a reply ... Confused

If you applied  to nemx5 on Yahoo, then god knows where you went, - a black hole? I know it says that on the bottom of the Yahoo groups site, but the NEM website was never on Yahoo, and it won't be where it is  much longer, we are migrating to this (official) site come Jan 1st. My guess is NE MX5 refers to the North East, but who knows?

Some members - and Areas, said they didn't like this forum, and stayed with their own, dunno why, I can't see any difference between using this or a PHP/vBulletin board, they all work the same, even if they look slightly different. There is also an air of 'Provincialism' in the Club, which I can see why, but it annoys me, as in such cases the Area comes first, and the Club ? - a long way behind. Some areas are only too pleased to particpate - and help - when it comes to National events, and others treat the Club as "that unwelcome relative", and turn their back, which can also account for independant websites.

    - I have had experience of both - - - - but Yorkshire were always there if you needed them!

Re: Is their any body out there

There is a strong social group up in the Yorkshire Ridings area but they have always used the yahoo groups thing rather than come onto here, I guess it works for them but they do seem to miss quite a few new folks as a result.

I've only managed a couple of runs with the group over the three years we've lived up here so I'm not best placed to comment...but to be fair they are a friendly lot who prefer spirited club runs to a more liesurely pace Wink

Re: Is their any body out there

Reason is really straightforward - the Yahoo group  ( North East MX5 Owners Club - NEMX5OC ) existed way before the forum did and had become the established way for the club members to communicate. The North East split into two groups due to high membership, Tyne Tees Group ( also with own Yahoo Group ) and NE became Yorkshire Ridings area, but retained the NEMX5OC yahoo group.

    Regards,

    Andy

Re: Is their any body out there

I'm another newbie who finds it a bit odd that my local area of the club isn't using this OC site as the main focus of communication.  But it does explain why I couldn't find much of what was going on locally before I joined the MX5OC and received the area newsletter. And that was one reason why I did not join the OC when I first heard about it.

At least now I fully understand that there are historical reasons, i.e. that the other site pre-dates this one. But now that there is a well-established main site for the OC, wouldn't it make sense to consider migrating the communications of any remining area groups to this site so that some don't have to use multiple sites: one for the area communication and one for the rest of the OC?  From what I have read so far, the Yorkshire group seem like a friendly, sociable and active bunch, so why not let the rest of the OC members and prospective members see what you are up to guys and gals - apart from, that is,  "Just having a laugh"? Smile

Just my very humble opionion and an observation as a new member.   Smile Smile

I'm going to regret this, but have you ever tried telling a Yorkshireman anything? Wink
