Re: Bertini GTO - Body change for mk2
its not ment as any disrespect to the MX5 - of which i am an owner and love...
its just been a childhood dream of mine to design and make a car... from scribbling on exercise books as a boy.
what better car to base my dream on than an MX5?
if anyone else likes it then thats a bonus as i intend to make moulds to reproduce the body panels :)

I do like some of the features of your design and it may appeal to the kit car types.

Re: Bertini GTO - Body change for mk2
I like it.
I liked it when TVR made the same shape:

I know they have more lights on the back but that's just down to the legal regulations for having lights on the back. Everything is a compromise.
Your pictures are pretty though, and if the mk2 looked like that I'd want one more than I do.

Re: Bertini GTO - Body change for mk2
I like the front a lot, but just my opinion I think it looks like it's got a fat backside !!
Wouldn't do it myself, but good luck to you. I'd be interested to see how it all goes and certainly the end product.

Re: Bertini GTO - Body change for mk2
In response to the question of 'Why?' then there's no better answer than 'Why not'. I'm in agreement with the previous response, love the front, not quite so sure about the back. Not a big fan of the ducks tail spoiler. Now if the spoiler were an optional moulding then I'd just tick the no thank you box on the option list.
I can see little hints of Aston, Jag and even Nissan Z cars in there as well as the ones you have listed as inspiration. It doesn't look like a 'bitsa' car though. Looks like a proper design. Nice to see a kit that's not a Lambo style body on a Trabant chassis or similar.

Re: Bertini GTO - Body change for mk2
thanks for the possitive comments - it makes me want to make sure it happens
i bought a bronze/gold mx5 (a colour i dont like) so it will help spur me on to make the kit.
im thinking of reducing the duck tail slightly - not to affect the lines bur to give it a slight cut off appearance
i also toyed with twin rear lights and a US square style number plate - a bit like a 70's corvette.

Re: Bertini GTO - Body change for mk2
Aren't those Mk1 doors on your mockup?
As for similar efforts using the Mk1, I can think of, off hand, the Simpson Design Italia 2, Monocraft MM1, D-Technique TD-1001R

And another Mk1 kit to throw in the mix, the Eva M22:

Re: Bertini GTO - Body change for mk2
you are right... they are mk1 doors... i started off designing it based on the mk1 and then decided to base my plans on the mk2. there is not a massive differance, but the door shapes and handels are slightly different to how it should look. i looked at the italia2 and monocraft... i like the front end of the monocraft, however i am not a fan of the italia2, i prefer the original mk1 italia/retroforza. I think both the italia2 and the moncraft are based on the mk2 MX5, but i find the italia2 styling a little akward.
I hope that i dont have to compramise too much with the design when i start to construct the body panals... but im sure everything will not go to plan.

i think that when i start constructing the panels i will be buying an old mk1 to try them on and see if there is a way i can get the kit to fit both cars... not sure if this is possible at this stage :)
