REIS Insurance - The one to beat!

     Hi,

I'm over 50, well into my 2nd childhood, with a 1999 MX5 1.8i (limited edition) Sport. List of modifications as long as your arm, ready for the odd track day or two, yet for some reason, I was struggling to find road insurance for this car, well, insurance that you didn't have to take out a mortgage for that is. Read about REIS here on the forums, thought I'd give them a try and whoop whoop, £389 fully comp, with trackday (4) for me and the wife... Unbelivable!!!

    All mods declared too!

    Well chuffed!

    Regards

    1999 Mk2 1.8i Sport, Limited Edition Red.

Re: REIS Insurance - The one to beat!

footman james bumped my premium up by £210 when i added a supercharger, sports exhaust and eibach springs to my mk-3...in excess of £600 now !!......will probably do at least 2 trackdays this year so will give REIS a chance to beat that...seems like a good deal with trackdays included in premium

Re: REIS Insurance - The one to beat!

I'm glad you got sorted, REIS wouldn't even quote me as "We are not insuring in that postcode area due to fraudulent claims". I asked them to check my address as I have lived here for 36 years and she refused to even look into it.

Re: REIS Insurance - The one to beat!

We tried to get a multicar quote from REIS, 2 x MX5 and an Audi A6 2.8 Quattro Avant. They can't do multicar because none of the cars are worth over £15K. Stipulation is that at least one of the cars must be worth more than £15K. Very odd. So still with Admiral, who once again tried it on. Renewal cost £875 after 45 minutes on phone we are now paying £700.

Re: REIS Insurance - The one to beat!

Well after a year with REIS I awaited my renewal quote half expecting it to go up as most insurance companies tend to do after they think they've hooked you in.  Fortunately it actually went down a bit.  Less than £260 for the year fully comp protected.  There is no insurance company that suits everyone but for me it beatss others hands down and is a major contributing factor to me keeping my MX-5

Re: REIS Insurance - The one to beat!

just like to add, i had an incident last month that involved writing off my car :( :( :( they had an engineer out within 2 days and on the 3rd, i had the dredded news of the car being a total loss due to cost of repairs, and the caar was then collected after 3 days and a cheque for the value of £2750 (less the £350 excess) within a week... so from crash to payout, it took about 9 days in total... very impressed.

Re: REIS Insurance - The one to beat!

My wife has just been refused insurance with REIS as her car has a K&N viper fitted and hasn't had "Experience in a modified car of this type in the last 12 months." When I tried to explain that the induction system is basically a bling air filter the lady I dealt with became very sarcastic. Adrian Flux, no problem and very courtious. Any non performance enhancing mods. covered and insured like for like.

    I have a mk1 1600 not a inport, insured with Saga which cost £134 fully com,Great deal.

I did mention to the lady that the mk1 was from the same place.
