New Mk1 California member in Nottingham

New member and first post - hope it is in the right place....

Had the California for about a month now, the previous owner had it for 12 years and I always said give me first refusal.  Well my bluff was called and I had to buy it.

The car is number 175 of 300; from the forums I believe I am in quite a small minority....  It was great to get my first edition of the club magazine and find the California featured - the only difference I can see is that mine seems to have a yellow topped engine - does anyone know if this was standard or some form of upgrade?  I'll post a picture sometime.

On Monday I had new discs and pads on all 4 corners; I stumbled across "5Speed" in Hucknall and was really impressed with the service received from Steven - well worth checking out.  Toyo's being considered for early January and I would really like to refurbish the alloys (and at some point some of the panels that have been replaced need a proper paintjob).  My question to the forum is what other work should I consider?  The car is a daily driver and I would like to get a good few years out of her.

Hi and welcome to the club  Waving   The yellow cam cover is an add on.  You will find there is so much that can be done to your 5. Loads of shiney bits that can be put on. When you get to one of the mationals, we hope you will, you will be amazed at the things members have done to make their 5's stand out.

I've just put Federal RSR's on my car.  I was recommended them over Toyo's for better grip, feedback and longevity.

    Hi Steve,

Welcome to the Club and the forum.

Hopefully see you at a North East Midlands meet. A California is an easy car to spot.

    hello and welcome Steve Waving

Good to see Californias being 'handed down' since bliddy Mazda couldn't be bothered to truly consider that people actually do want yellow and in the Mk3

Keep the yellows alive in the 5, i say

I just had my California alloys refurbed at "The Wheel Specialist" in Nottingham.  Dropped of the car at 08:00 and picked up at 17:00.  £300 for 4 wheels, chrome valves and painted wheel nuts....
