    Castle Combe and Wiscombe Hillclimb

Hi all, I'm based in the SW and as such would love to be involved in any nearby events, Castle Combe being my nearest circuit, and Wiscombe Park near Beer in Devon being my nearest Hillclimb. Count me in if there's any plans afoot!

    Cheers, Tim

Re: Castle Combe and Wiscombe Hillclimb

If anyone wants to attend the action days or the classic when the club arent going are more than welcome to come on my local clubs stand.

We attend all combe action days, hopefully we might get along to some of the sprints they have this year too.

If anyone goes to any events then let me know as often out with the camera so can pass on pictures.

I get to most of the Action Days and park up in the dedicated club areas in the paddock area with the Wessex and Western areas so we may meet up.

Re: Castle Combe and Wiscombe Hillclimb

Thanks Liz, Phil and Richard for your replies. This is all really useful info, and I to start the New Year off properly become a fully paid up member as of this morning. I am hoping to attend both the Cornish Main Rally in May with my son, and will look into the action days Phil has mentioned, which sound ideal for a novice. I've done 2 track days on motorbikes (a Cadwell day on a VFR400R and Silverstone on a Yamaha RD350YPVS F2 I used to own) but never driven a car around a track - yet!

I'll keep checking on the SW region motorsport area. Thanks all for your inspiration!

    Happy New Year...

Re: Castle Combe and Wiscombe Hillclimb

If you want to do track time at the Combe action days then I suggest getting a morning session. 10am being perfect sort of time. The afternoon ones tend to get full of idiots who think they can drive and try to race a little making more dangerous for others.

If you make it up to Combe in April then I should have a couple of sessions booked so could give you a passenger lap if you wish?

Richard, that's a very kind offer! I'm self-employed so can make odd times and days, and riding passenger in your MX5 would be a great start to my car track experience. I'm presuming its not as easy as bringing along my MX5 to CC in April, paying money, and driving?!

Julian many thanks, I have never been along to a SW meet, but the 10th could be my chance! Thanks. If its dry-ish I'd drive it, but being a keen cyclist I wonder if I'd upset anyone by cycling to the Twisted Oak... ;-)

No problem, always good to get more people into it which will help get more days/venues. In fact it is that easy, as long as there are sessions left. My mate normally has a few afternoon ones he tries to get rid of.

Think its the 21st April for the first one, so message me before hand and if you up I can take you out then if you like it you can buy a session after and take your car out.

Re: Castle Combe and Wiscombe Hillclimb

Yes you can just turn up pay your cash and go out on track. The first one of the year tends to be fairly busy but there are usually some spare slots if you turn up  earlyish. You do have to attend a drivers briefing, you must wear a helmet and arms and legs have to be covered, so no shorts and tee shirts. I guess you have a helmet, if not you can hire one at the circuit. Yuo also have to get the car noise tested at the circuit (this is free) but an MX-5 should have no problems. If you want to take a passenger out it is £5.00 I think. You can of course dook track time in advance which saves you a fiver but you take a chance with the weather.

This sounds great. How much will it be and when are you taking bookings? Would love the chance to be out with the race cars!
