    Insurance

Hi All, My car insurance is due the third week in January..Has anyone any advice on where best to obtain quotes? I am with Aviva insurance & have been for the last two years. I am happy with Aviva as I have had to claim twice of them in the last two years & they have paid up no quibble however I am looking to reduce my premium if possible..(current renewal quote from Aviva is £349) seems a lot for the cars value..

My car is a Mk1 1600 Eunos  & I live in the centre of Swansea..would appreciate any insurance leads? Thinking

    Thanks Bridget :-)

    Re: Insurance

It's the value of the other cars on the road that means the premiums don't go down that much as your car's value might suggest. You could try some comparison sites like gocompare.

2012 is the last year that insurers can charge females less than males - so enjoy it while you can! You might have problems with getting decent quotes with two claims in two years (unless no fault).

    Re: Insurance

Hi there, Thanks for your reply.

I was hoping that there was a particular insurance company that looked after MX5 drivers. I will go through the comparison websites in the next few weeks. Regards the claims the 1st one is class as (my fault) the car set on fire whilst I was in ity!! The 2nd one is still going through although I don't think it will be classed as my fault as I was stationary at red lights when a massive artic lorry decided to set off before the lights changed, unfortunately I was in front of him!! Re: Insurance

Failing that - sticking with your current insurer as one of the claims is still pending final settlement might be the best course of action.

It may be worth having a look on the Tesco website, it was the cheapest I could find, under £200 fully comp for my good lady and me

    Re: Insurance

The best advice is probably to phone a wide range of insurers and see what they offer. You should also talk to your existing insurer. Tell them that you are ringing other companies for quotes and they may well offer you a lower quote to keep you.

We're with Footman James on a classic policy because the insurer we use for our two everyday cars wouldn't insure a 20 year old japanese import. But we only ended up with them after a few phone calls and internet searches.

    Re: Insurance

What's the annual mileage limit on that?

One point to watch is that classic car policies normally don't have no-claims bonuses, so if you switch back to regular insurance in the future you may have a problem proving your complete NCB record. Also some classic car policies expect the car to be garaged (which of course is fine if it is).

When I worked at an insurer I read about a guy who claimed for a Ferrari theft and it was supposed to be garaged. He said it was because it was in a multi-storey parking garage (which he owned!). They refused to pay, partly for this reason and also because he left the keys with the attendant in the payment office.

    Re: Insurance

Hi Zpat, the mileage limit is up to 5000k which is absolutley fine for me. He did mention the fact that I would not be using my ncd, but he said what I have earnt is valid for 3 years so maybe the 3rd year go back to a normal car policy in order to keep my ncd. He did not mention that it had to be garaged, however I will ask the question before I hand my dosh over as mine normally isn't.

Thanks for all the info Wink Bridget

    Re: Insurance

I did try Adrian Flux, & they were cheaper then my current policy, but that was taking off my PNCD (protected no claims discount). Wow I would cry if my insurance was £1750Cry Good luck with finding a cheaper oneWink

I was less than impressed by Adrian Flux when I looked for quotes recently. The chap I spoke to asked me if the MX5 was a 4 seater. Needless to say I didn't go with their quote.

     Hi,

I'm sorry to hear about your negative experience with ourselves. Would it be at all possible if you could PM me your details so I could offer the clerk some additional training in this matter.

    Regards,

    Dan.

You get things like this with all insurance companies. Try insuring a car that only 59 were only ever imported into the UK then you have real fun with people who have no idea about cars what so ever.
