Mint x19 only approx 9,000 miles
Guys i mention this car as i assume as we are into two seat sports cars this would be of interest .One of my favourite cars is the x19.The only problem now is body work and reliability ,but a great car.Came across a cracker today 2nf feb on the used cars ni(nireland)web site. Its the best version in my opinion the 1500 vs.It only has approx 9,000 miles on it.It is two tone in silver ,and charcoal, and has the full red leather interior. As if nearly just out of the showroom. One woman owner. worth a look at the website, very very rare,James

Re: Mint x19 only approx 9,000 miles
A friend, in Ballynahinch, had an original 1974 X-19, in dayglo orange. As he worked for Bombardier, he was sent away for 2 years to Texas, to work on a USMC contract. During that time, he arranged for his large collection of classics (10-12 cars) to be stored in a large dry barn. Upon his return, I helped him move over the fleet. The X-19 went into storage as a perfect working car; he had even removed the carpets, to ensure that damp would not affect the electrics. Predictably, during its 2 years sojourn, it had turned into a clown car; the popup lights went haywire upon starting the car.
I used to hillclimb/sprint with the TSCC (Croft, Kirkistown, Nutts Corner, Garron Point, Cultra etc). My nemesis was a black/silver X-19 VS, that the owner had fitted with a 2.0 Lancia engine; it could just about keep pace with the standard 91 Eunos Roadster.
So, when are you going to buy the Fiat, to join your Lotus Eclap? Or is a MGF still under consideration?

Indeed an X19 is not an MX-5 and is perfectly acceptable to be discussed here, this forum is likely to last longer than its bodywork though.

Re: Mint x19 only approx 9,000 miles
I don't see a problem talking about other cars in this part of the forum. That is what it's here for. Let's give the guy a break.
The X19 always struck me as an interesting idea - glad it existed - but never really wanted one.
The "interesting idea - glad it existed" bit comes from the basic premise of the car - a cheap titchy mid-engined two seater with sharp lines like a mini esprit. Ferrari-esque fun on a budget. On paper, that sounds quite appealing. You get 80% of the benefits of a supercar for 20% of the costs. After all, that is largely what the MX-5 is about. Who needs a 150 mph top speed when the national speed limit is just 70? And who really wants a car that you'd be too scared to drive in case you scratched it?
But ... the "never really wanted one" bit comes when you add in the word "Fiat". A complicated mid-engined car from Fiat's troubled orange period, when the dreaded tin worm accelerated faster than the cars did. Hmmm - no thanks.
Now, if the X19 had been built by Mazda, Honda, Toyota, Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Ford ...
I have a similar problem with the TR7/ TR8. As a child of the seventies I quite like the x-wing starfighter wedgy look. I just wish it hadn't been made by British "it'll do" Leyland.
