    Replacement bolts/screws etc

    Hi,

You know the drill - you start a job, and it gets nasty. Rusted bolts, broken screws, all those good things.

So, where's the best place to obtain replacements, and how do I know what to order?

Most of the bolts on my Mk1 Eunos are the 10mm Hexagon headed flange bolts. I think these are M6.

I also need some of the fixings that hold down the petrol tank cover on the rear bulkhead (parcel shelf). All 3 panels on my car were completely rusted (really good quality replacements from mx5revive - cheers Brian!). The large folded piece (up behind the seats and onto the top of the parcel shelf) uses the 10mm Hexagon headed flange bolts. Then there are two smaller, roughly triangular panels that cover the petrol tank. These were so rusted on my car that I can't get the fixings out, and can't even tell what sort of fixings they are. They screw into plastic housings, rather than screwing directly into the metalwork like the other bolts. I think they may be self-tapping screws.

    Here's hoping...

For non-structural stuff I use Stainless replacements from Screwfix.

Yes, or for small and varied quantities eBay is good. Try a search, for example, m6 20 high tensile, or, m6 20 flanged, etc and you'll see the ranges on offer.

Be familiar with the tensile ratings and the markings stamped on the heads to get the proper grade for the job and, you probably know, much stainless is lower strength than regular high tensile so not usually any good for engine bolts.

I've got a tin full of random Mazda screws and bolts taken off Project Merlot you'd be welcome to have a rummage though it for a donation to the Merlot fund. I can bring the tin to an Eastern Region meet or you can pop over to Ely at some point if you like.

    Hi Robbie,

That would be great. I'm over in Ely a lot - where do I find you? When's best to pop over?
