    Dinitrol and rust prevention ?

Just ordered my Dinitrol kit for Mx and will get the stuff sprayed in asap.....my right frt sill has a couple of bubbles on it and I am sure that a sill repair is on the cards....does anyone have any experience of Dinitrol actually stopping rust as the website hinted it will stop it spreading , does it have some kind of chemical converter in the make up of the wax ?

You want to use the Rustcovert spray first, and then the cavity wax. Removing the carpet under the hood reveals holes that give great access to the top of the rear acrches, and the wax will run all the way down over the seam to the sill too.

To an extent it can stop rust but you're just delaying the inevitable and you will need to repair your sills. It essentially works by forming a barrier between rust and water/air. The rust will still be there though, if you can see it from the outside it'll be many times worse inside. You really need to convert any rust first before using the cavity wax, Dinitrol do one but I forget it's name. Dinitrol is good stuff though and works well. I recently Dinitroled my car focusing on the backs of the sills and the chassis rails. I used a compressor which aided with the atomising of the wax and ensured the wax was nice and warm to aid the spread of it.

I've got plenty of experience with rust and cavity wax as I have old Triumph's. Anyone who whinges about rust in their MX5 has no idea about how BL's finest can rust.

I tried restoring my old Spitfire once...rust treating the sills was like the old forth bridge. They would literally rust away in a day!

I don't know why they just didn't paint them a rust colour straight from the factory....... hang on - I think they did on certain Austin Maxis

Will look into the rustproofer,    I think I will treat it for now while I use it and sort the rust out in the winter as i would like to use it for now, I had a MG Midget a long time ago now that was enrolled in the tinworm hall of fame and after driving the MX I am at a loss as to why I had one ! Oh yes thats right no MX's about then.

Is it me or is the MX the MGB that would have kept BL alive ?

Hmm, well when we went MX5 hunting we did 400 miles one day to look at 2 2002 cars which should have been very nice. Both had bad sill rust issues. The worse one had clearly been filled and painted both sides already and was ready for doing again. I would put it on a par with my first MGB a 1964 car which I bought in 1974. So there you go - not much progress there. We walked from both, researched further, bought newer then spent more still on Dinitrol. MX5's are not good, no better than a Midget or B would have been given waxoyl or Dintrol, which wasn't available in the day.
