Although
now living on IOW, this is my previous stomping ground.
OK, a few
miles from Solent but an easy drive on A3 and well worth it.(Tunnelman will be pleased!)
Plan is
for an interesting day out with vineyard tour post lunch stop and afternoon
walk to highest point in SE
Meet
Silent Pool car park on westbound carriageway of A25 just after A248 T junction
from 10.30 for 11.00 start. The Silent Pool itself is a few minutes walk from
the car park and worth a look (completely dry last time I visited!).
Directions
from A3 are to leave around Milford at junction signed Godalming (maybe also Dorking?)
joining A3100 north, then follow signs for Dorking. Leave on the A248 signed Shalford/Dorking
crossing A281 (left at T junction, then right at roundabout). Stay on A248 and
at T junction with A25 you are forced left on short stretch of dual carriageway
for 200 yds where you should quickly get into outside lane marked Dorking to
"U" turn back east for 200yds, then quick left into Silent Pool car park.
The drive
begins east along A25 as far as Shere where we turn right in village and head
south toward Cranleigh where we loop back via Blackheath Forest to join
A248/A25 east. We briefly retrace previous before heading north just before Shere
towards East Clandon for brief blast along A246 as far as West Horsley where we
turn right looping through Effingham Forest then across Ranmore Common and just
before church we turn left towards Westhumble, crossing A24, then climbing Box
Hill from where we drop down and join A25 west with another brief blast towards
Dorking for lunch stop (self service) at Denbies Vineyard.
Opportunity
here to purchase quality wines, outdoor walkies and 14.00 hrs indoor winery tour which includes a tasting.
(Allow 1.5 hrs if we include both)
We then
turn south to Coldharbour, continue and circle Leith Hill with stop at car park
for 20 min walk up to tower. (Allow 1.0 hr) where drive ends.
Leith Hill walkers get guided drive back via Friday Street as far as left
turn onto A25, maybe stopping at nearby pub for goodbyes.
Suggest you Google following for more info: -

service lunch and can book group 14.00 hrs 50 min indoor tour (includes
novel MX0 driven drive and tasting) of winery. (Group of 10+ £ 7.00pp but need to book in
advance)
