Yesterday afternoon i had a chap call with me with an overheating problem which has me a bit puzzled. He is bringing the car back today for me to try and sort out so any help would be gratefully recieved
the symptoms
his car was gurgling once he shut off the engine after a long run and blowing coolant out the overflow, so i advised him to change rad cap, and it fixed it
now
His temp gauge crept upto the 2o'clock position sitting in traffic yesterday and when he arrived with me i noticed that his rad fan wasnt kicking on and neither was the aircon fan.
To get the temp down i advised him to turn the heaters on full and the temp came down immediately.
I turned on the aircon and neither fan turned on, although the compressor kicked in and the rpms' rose as expected so...
im thinking its one or a combination of the following
1 cooling fuse in main fusebox
2 la10 relay near passenger wing
3 bad fan connector
4. bad fan motor(s) - unlikely for both to fail at once which makes me think its not these
5 bad aircon fan relay ( 1 mounted on plastic bracket by passenger headlight)
6 faulty thermoswitch at the back of the head.
Has anyone ever come across this before on a mk2 ? neither fan working ( even when a/c is switched on)
i cant find a wiring diagram for the mk2 cooling sytems to see how they are all connected.
on mk1's you can jumper tfa and gnd in the diagnostics box to test the fan but the mk2's dont have the tfa pin.
