    Mk3 Supercharger

    Hi,

I'm interetsed in upgrading my mx5 2.0 sport and was hoping that someone out there has a supercharger fitted and can tell me if any other mods were required and also what the 0-60 is?

I have looked at the BBR cosworth website it tells you the increase of bhp is to 235 but not the 0-60.

Look forward to hearing from someone soon.

    Re: Mk3 Supercharger

     Hi Rectalrang

I have the BBR-Cosworth 'charger fitted on my '06 2.0i Sport, and the only real upgrade you might want to consider is to replace the standard discs with something a little sportier and maybe the brake pads as well. I've put EBC Turbogroove discs on all round with Yellowstuff pads.....other than that you shouldn't need to upgrade anything else. Quite honestly, the standard discs and pads are more than man enough for the job, as is the clutch.

Not got round to timing the 0-60 yet, so can't help you there......must get it done soon !

    Big Kev

P.S....if you upgrade the exhaust system you'll be pushing 250 bhp.

    Re: Mk3 Supercharger

     Good morning Big Kev,

Did you fit the supercharger yourself, or did BBR fit it?

Hss the car been on a rolling road as part of the installation?

    Thanks and regards,

    Stephen.

    Re: Mk3 Supercharger

     Stephen,

I got BBR to install it, and I can only assume that it's been on a rolling-road/dyno to determine the bhp.....though I do know that it had two full days of testing before it was handed over to me.

    Re: Mk3 Supercharger

Big Kev.......please forgive all the questions but I keep wondering whether to change the S2000 for a supercharged Mk3 / 3.5.

Did BBR conduct any tests on your car to pronounce it fit for supercharging.....compression test or whatever?

Are you pleased with the conversion?

When the day comes would you expect to sell the car supercharged, or would you expect to sell the supercharger and car separately?

    Thanks, Stephen

not that i'm aware of...having said that mine is about the 20th ( ish ) that they've done, so the procedure is well proven.....there are about 24 or 25 running around now

i'm not planning on ever selling her, but BBR have told me that they will supplant the 'charger into another car should i choose, or be forced , to do so

    Re: Mk3 Supercharger

I had my MK2, 1.6 turbo-charged at BBR; they do not use a rolling road, they do several days setting up on the road with software connected to the ECU. The ECU is their own modified version. I guess the issue is optimising the fuel injection to the amount of extra air being supplied. MIne has more than 220bhp and does 0-60 somewhere between 5 and 6 seconds. I guess a supercharged MK3 would do more. I wrote a brief article on STHT which maybe they will publish one day. As BK says, BBR have done several of these and when I was there in March they were also upgrading two MK3s at the time.

    Re: Mk3 Supercharger

    Hi Big Kev,

Thanks for the info, I am def going to book the test drive at BBR before making any final decision but sounds like your having fun in yours.

Also considering having the suspension dropped, Mazda's price wasn't that bad at all.

I was supposed to test drive the new special edition Kuro at Corby on Saturday but it had already been sold so they gave me a 1.8 SE soft top instead must admit felt a lot stronger and tighter even though the changes are miminal.

    Thanks again

if you can source the springs yourself ( at the right price ), BBR will be happy to put them in for you...they gave me a good deal to install the Eibachs i'd already bought from MX5parts.

great idea.....be careful though, once you've tried it you know you're gonna want it !.......let me know how you get on.

ps.....as an afterthought, if i'm nearer to you than BBR, you could always have a taster in mine.

    Re: Mk3 Supercharger

    Hi Big Kev,

I shall def look into sourcing the springs from somewhere else and call BBR for a fitting price, thanks for the info.

I'm based in MK so Brackley isn't that far for me, thanks for the offer though.

Do you know if there are any members going to the Silverstone Classic weekend?

I missed the opportunity to buy the display package before the closing date & still undecided on which day to attend.

    Re: Mk3 Supercharger

     Hi Rectalrang,

I had my mk3.5 BBR'd after BK had his done. Very pleased with the results. I had my car on a dynopack before and after the conversion. From memory, the BHP at the wheels before was 120, after was 175. I took some video of 0-60 and in-gear accels before and after but they don't really show the full effect of the conversion.

    Doggydog.
