    Window regulator

Hi I'm new to this forum. Recently bought a lovely 2003 mk2.5 I believe mx5 and have got two issues with it. First and main one is that the window will only travel a 3rd of the way down. I took the door card off and the regulator seems to be working but then jamming. Any ideas on how to fix or do I need a new regualtor?

Second problem is my main speakers stopped working all of a sudden! Cabling looks fine although I am missing a fuse in the drivers side fush box for sound. I'm actually missing the metal bits that hold the fuse in! Would this cause only the main speakers to stop working because the little tweeters work ok...?

Hope somebody can help or point me in the right direction

    Regards

    Rhodri

This should help with your window problem?

     http://www.mx5oc.co.uk/forum/forums/t/15422.aspx

Sounds like your speaker is dead,? have you checked for weathering (furring) on the speaker male spade connections?this is nothing to do with the fuse blank.

I personally would plug in the other speaker from the other door to make sure(swap them around) it could be the head unit?but it does not sound like it with the tweeter working ok?.

    Re: Window regulator

Great, thank you. I will be home from London on Saturday so will take a look at it then and let you know how I get on.

Thought it might have been a fuse as both speakers stopped working, not just one. Will try and get some tool to remove the headunit and see how the connections work.

    Appreciate the advice mate

    Re: Window regulator

Just had a really quick look at that link and I'm a little unsure as to which clip they are referring to. The only clip I could see when I had the door panel off the other day was a white one just inside the gap in the middle just below the handle. There was a wire which was unhooked from it (another puzzle in the clue?) so hooked it back on the white clip but it didn't make a difference. Still moves half way then slows to a jam rather than suddenly stops.

    Cheers,

    Rhodri

    Re: Window regulator

had a good look this morning and havent been able to fix it yet. initially, the window went 1/3 the way down but then i found the metal rod that sits along the top of the door panel, pulled it back and it went down a bit more. result.... kind of.

this rod does feel like it's resting against the window but then its also resting against the frame of the door too. I have noticed the metal cable that runs down the middle of the door has a plastic clip on it. the cable wasnt slotted on this clip so thought i had again found the problem but when i attached the cable again, it was still the same. this cable is tight when the window is half way down and loose when fully up (another clue in the puzzle?)

also took it to the garage quickly as only down the road and they immediatly said the regultor has broken and will need a new one. not very familiar with these mechanisms, and struggling to understand how the window would even move if the regualtor has completely broken.

any ideas on a fix for this before i get a replacement on here..

    thanks,

    Rhodri

    Re: Window regulator

Any last bits of advice on this before I give up and buy another one?

The mechanism seems to be working perfectly until half way down then slows to a jam. So it's NOT an instant stop like its hitting something.

Door card is still off and speaker is out of the door for more access.

    Cheers,

    Rod

    Re: Window regulator

UPDATE ---> used the window as normal earlier. Heard a crunch, and the window now moves freely up and down all the way!

Bit worried it crunched but happy it now works. Thanks for the advice and will contact those who offered me a replacement regualtor if it goes again

Still the issue with the main speakers but will start a new thread on that once I have checked behind the head unit.

    Cheers

A bit of crap in the runners probably. Or a bit of glass from a previous window.
