Key for MK2 - Lost one with chip

I am posting on behalf of Tony (ajay).

Does anybody know how to get a key for a MK2 as the key with the chip is missing? Thanks

Assuming a UK supplied car, the Mk2 has an immobiliser and came with two keys and each has a chip. Therefore you cannot start the car without a chipped key.

Are you talking about an aftermarket sendor dongle.

Timpsons can read the number off a key and cut a new one and write the electonic number to the integrated chip.

You would have to enter the welcome embrace of the Mazda dealer to get a new key and have it keyed to the car, I guess unless anyone knows better. Then go to Timpsons and have that copied so you now have two keys.

A friend had an old Fiat with 6 months MOT and had lost the keys. The cost of keys from the Fiat dealer made them scrap the car.

Those keys are proper pricey. Guard them with your life!

You can possibly get a second hand key off fleabay and get a kindly person with an OBD reader to do the do. Someone will know if this is possible.

Not if it is a MK2 as the diagnostic system is Mazda specific.

The Mk2.5 was standard in the diagnostic department.

I think the code in the ECU cannot be changed. So possibly Mazda have a record of it and will send a key that is the correct cut and just copy the code to it. I think Timpsons charge £30 to copy the key.

My Impreza key was circa £150
