    Re: Sam Goodwin, Nuneaton

Another thumbs up for Sam Goodwin in Nuneaton. I took my Mk2 there this morning after experiencing a mysterious and sporadic "hesitation", especially when cold. Armed with nothing more than a paper clip and a LED, they correctly diagnosed an intermittent fault from the throttle position sensor and even better, had one on a spare throttle body laying on a shelf at the back of the workshop. The car runs like a dream now; it clearly had been dodgy for some time and I hadn't noticed the performance going off. Clearly, there's no substitute for experts like Steve and Sam who know what they are doing and have so much experience with MX5s. Thanks guys - one happy bunny here

    Re: Freelance Mazda

    Hello,

Another plus to Freelance Mazda from me. I'm an Australian MX-5 owner and I bought a car here to travel Europe/drive the Nurburgring. Had my car serviced elsewhere and wanted to get the timing belt changed, but the price they were asking was ridiculous, so searched around. Freelance lists the price on their website, it was around half as much. The job had to be done quick, so I could head over to the ring. Car was ready quick, the guy there is a top bloke and picked me up from the station and then even charged £10 less than the already ridiculously cheap price.

What a great bunch of guys. New mohair hood for my Mk2 for £260 fitted. Bit of a long way to go (unless you live in S. Wales of course....), but definately worth the trip if you need a new hood.

    Freelance Mazda

Another thumbs up for Freelance. They've done both my services, and at the last one I mentioned that the gearbox was a bit crunchy, despite them changing it the first service. The investigated, put it down to a poor brand of oil they'd used the first time round and repalced it free of charge. Excellent service.

Also gave me some over the phone advice which helped me solve my idle issues brought on by a new battery (thread here: http://www.mx5oc.co.uk/forum/forums/t/38001.aspx)

    Re: Danndycars

I am looking for a good reliable independent for all my servicing/repair need on my Mk3.  I have only just bought this car and would like a full service and checkover (for my peace of mind). Also I am looking to personalise her a little Wink.  I have done a forum  search on the above but would appreciate some feed back from any member (or otherwise) that have used them.

    Thanks Waving

Hi, I have used dandy cars.

I found them very straight forward to deal with and their rates were reasonable.

The chap I dealt with is Bill.

    Hope this helps.

    Re: MAZFORD.TEC in Gosport

I would like to recommend doctormx5 of Bishops Waltham, Hampshire. I had my sill repaired very reasonably before Christmas and this week I had a new CAS o ring fitted while I waited for £35. Julian has recently started up on his own after working for Autolink and he is very knowledgeable on all things MX5.

Smooth Classic Car Restorations - Beds & Bucks

Hi there, my first post on here. Hopefully in time, I can pass on some of the help this forum has given me.

First off then, a strong recommendation for Roland who runs Smooth Classic Car Restorations http://www.smoothclassiccars.com/

He has just replaced the sills on my 89 mk1 Eunos and has done such a great job I thought he deserved a shout out. Give him a call on 07930 639368 and make sure you visit him at his workshop if you love cars and oily bits!

Big SmileYesterday I had a cam belt & water pump change at 5 speed (http://www.5-speed.co.uk/) near Nottingham.

The business is owned & run by Steven Morecroft and I have to say I was very impressed by him, he did a great job.

I found him to be very enthusiastic and his rates are very reasonable.

I would have no hesitation in recommending him to anyone.

I've been to them before and I wouldn't go there again.

Seems a little unfair not to give a reason why you would not return.

    ok.

I took my old 5 there for a turbo conversion. They had the car for 8 months in total, during which time I was cycling to work and unable to go anywhere at weekends. It appeared to me in the end that they were working on my car when they didn't have anything else to do as they'd decided I was a 'soft touch', I was I admit altogether too patient and my good nature was taken advantage of. The car was returned to me with the engine bay in a mess with loose wires from the old ecu still in evidence and the horns disconnected. I asked them to sort the horns and the wiring whilst I was there which they did, although they just cut the old wires at the bulkhead rather than removing them entirely. When I started to drive the car home, once the engine had warmed up properly it would stall at any form of junction. I later found out this was due to a badly setup fuel map. I had asked for all of my stock parts back, some of which I got back but notably the clutch was missing. I was told this was because it was worn out and they had 'probably' thrown it away. My car had about 18k on the clock when it went for the conversion so this is imo highly unlikely.

On getting home I contacted 5 speed and they asked me to send them the map (why they did not have a copy already I don't know) and some logs. This I did. I never heard from them again!

I'd even taken them for a drink after collecting the car and when we went to leave the pub my car would not start. I actually saw steven look over at me, shrug his shoulders and then drive off!

I paid them more than we agreed as they said there had been extra time involved and some extra parts (I have no problem with the extra parts, but when they had had the car for 8 months paying over the odds for labour was a bit rich).

I hope that answers your question.
