    Problems

A bit unclear as to where to post a problem..................

Such as "I have an annoying rattle coming from under the car"

As this could be related to anything really. Wheels, Trans, Engine, Gearbox, Suspension etc.

For a beginer in a 5 this might pose a problem ..........Sad

Like the smileys though .............Smile sorry cant find the laugthing one.

Post in the "HELP ME!" forum "Don't know which forum to start in? Then post here and as the topic develops it may get moved to the relavent forum."

    Re: Problems

It is confusing - as I have said (several times now - must all be getting a bit fed up with it, but maybe if I nag eniough...), there are too many different sub categories for problems.

We got away with just one before, so surely a split of MK1/MK2/MK3, or electrical/mechanical or interior/exterior would have been a better starting place.
The forum is not active enough (and I doubt will be for a while) to allow so many different areas to work properly.

For instance, if we were to split those categories in to each region, people just would not look at them all - that is what we will have on a smaller scale.

It will become impossible to just have a quick look & post - it will need to become a specific task - "I'll have a look on the forum for 5 minutes", rather than keeping yourself amused whilst on hold to the support desk at work or whatever,

May I just add that the Technical Section is called "The Garage" & not specificly "Problems".

     Does this help?

    Re: Problems

I could have sworn that I posted in a similar vein on Saturday but can't find it anywhere!! My post count suggests I did, but searching all posts by me doesn't. Methinks somebody has deleted it...

I will say again - Problems was my first port of call, always relevant and interesting and with 7777 topics and 56k posts not exactly underused. So what if there was duplication, that simply provides more resource and useful experience to call on.

Why oh Why would the most active and obviously popular forum not be carried forward?

    Re: Problems

Are you saying that "Help Me" should be re-named "Problems" and moved to the top of "The Garage" or does it go deeper than that? People seem to be getting on with it OK so far.

I saw it as the single "Problems" forum being carried over in a bigger and more specialised format.

This much should be a gimme ..........................Problems are just that.

As for putting them into an appropiate section..................well..............That would be a matter of what an individual thought the answer might be.

Which may or may not be the case.

A Rattle could be caused by many many many things and the answer to one thing may lead to another thing.

But please a Problem section might be what is required. Not an individual problem area within each section.

The more flash you make things, the more overcomplicated things become, the less you will like it and you will seek something

a lot less complicated. The idea is to win people over and to get them to come on board, not to scare them off at the first instance.

    Re: Problems

There was never going to be an induvidual problem area in each section. I think the issue is that "Problems" is called "HELP ME!" Correct? As stated in the HELP ME! description, "...as the post develops it may get moved to the relavent forum." That way the answer will end up in the correct forum providing a good resource.

Good call, then it could be moved to the correct section when a result has been forthcoming....... maybe? Yes

Because in an ideal world people would post in the correct forum in the first place. As a general rule, people have some sort of idea where their problem lies. If the forum was called "Problems" then it would draw people to post in it with all problems and hopefully the current format will self moderate to a degree.

The HELP ME! forum is there to be used, the "Problems" title was not dropped just to be awkward honest. This format has been discused and (thorght) to be OK. How about we live with it for a while and see how it goes?

    Note Bold/Underlined......

It isnt an ideal world and a problem like the one mentioned at the start of the thread, a new guy will struggle to place it.

My intension is not to seem to be awkward but it may be coming over like this................Embarrassed

Yes, it isn't an ideal world hence we still have the HELP ME! (Problems) forum. What is wrong with the "new guy" posting there?
