For those that have air con and are in need of it being recharged Kwik Fit are doign a deal at the moment. £45 inc VAT and if there are any problems they will re gas it up to 3 times and if there are still problems with the system they refund the money.Just had mine done on the MK2 and even with the top down it makes a big difference.
I know mine needs doing, will track them down tomorrow.
Not sure what type of coolant is in mine, will find out if they will do it for that price then I guess

They only have R134a and this will wreck the R12 equiped a/c on a mk1. Find somewhere that has RS24 gas, this is a drop-in replacement for R12.

Fair point, but how do I know mine hasnt already been converted ?
Put R134a in it.
If it loses all the gas as it breaks the o ring seals and then seizes the compressor you will know it hasn't been converted!!
Well, I think I will give that bit of advice a miss then
Seriously though. I think if it has been converted to R134a the valves will be changed to newer style ones. I may be wrong.....

Personally I would rather boil my own head in oil than let the incompetent gimps at kwik fit anywhere near my car.
totally agree with the comment re Kwik Fit - I'd never willingly let them anywhere near my car at all
