Don't know the answer to your question,guess could be a problem if someone ran into the back of your car and told the insurance co the centre light was obscured. Our MX is now 7 years old,and whilst both sets of keys and fobs still work ok,one set has lived in a drawer pretty much since new,whilst the other has now got very worn and the metal end of the fob through which the ring passes has broken.
