  • Re: The New MX-5 ND, Mark 4 speculation thread, part two...

I was following a newish Golf out of work this week and the smell was . Looks as if it's going to be a half-Alfa 1.3 turbo, anyway.  The local Mazda salesman said that they hadn't been told much technical detail about the new model but he was sure about the co-development with Alfa. Turbos are OK if they're water-cooled (most ...

  • Re: Copper slip on hubs

Yes between wheel and disc.  Not between hub and disc.  The latter should be cleaned as well as possible before fitting a new disc "dry".  Yes, the disc will corrode itself onto the hub fairly quickly, but this isn't necessarily a bad thing; it stops it shifting when you take off the wheel and potentially getting a bit ...

  • Re: Not really new but

Car should be here by the end of the month.  Now, where to inject wax on a Mk3.5?  I have a ton of Dynax S50 left over from the Mk1.

  • Mk3 wheels

16", steel or alloy, need to be dent free and relatively unkerbed.  For winter use.

  • Re: The New MX-5 ND, Mark 4 speculation thread, part two...

Diesel convertibles are an abomination.  Look, I cycle to work and I can tell you that diesel exhaust smells.  I mean, it smells bad.  You really don't want a faceful of it when you reverse out of your driveway.  I've been running a BMW 320d estate for the last year and, while it is undoubtedly a fine motorway cruiser ...

  • Re: Buying a new MX5

I'd buy a new one simply because then I'd know all its history.  It depends how long you're going to keep the same car; if the answer is "indefinitely"*, then depreciation is pretty small when amortised over 10 years.  Anyway, mine is going to be a "cash option" company car and it works out cheaper than ...

  • Not really new but

I am test driving a new MX-5 tomorrow.  Looking at a 1.8 Venture.  Anyone want to buy an old BMW estate?  I really missed the MX.

  • Re: stick on number plate

An important tip: you must avoid creases when fitting, but don't worry about small air bubbles.  They will come out after a fortnight or so, because the vinyl is slightly permeable. Getting the plate straight is a challenge.  They look best on a Mk1 if you remove the nose badge and put the plate fairly high up; about 2 inches from ...

  • Re: Goodbye to my beloved 5.

I now have the address of the salvage firm in Bedfordshire if anyone wants it by PM.  The bodyshell* and all the panels except the front bumper and bonnet are good and remarkably rust free, the engine is good (except the radiator, but I only ran the engine for about 1 minute afterwards to gett he car to a safe place, so it won't have ...

  • Re: Adjusting the throttle cable?

This was one of the first things I did when I bought my car.  However, if you have severe idle droop when dipping the clutch, check the base idle speed instead.
