  • Re: Alternator? Logged voltage drops at above 3500rpm

Hi R-b, me too re the graphing, all done on my htc desire hd phone, really helpful on this occassion to be able to log like this.  Yep I did pay up for the full Torque version, worth every penny.  Re the upload, press stop logging and then menu which offers a upload to 'drive' option.  .JPG uploaded, hosted in PICASA and ...

  • Re: Alternator? Logged voltage drops at above 3500rpm

Well job is done... very pleased with my novice spannering.  Certainly the most involved to date.  Two new belts on as well.  And as for japanise design, I would like to hear the logic from the vindictive little **** who though putting the botton pivot bolt in from the rear was a clever idea!  There must be a reason if anyone ...

  • Re: Blyton - Code reading and resetting service

[quote user="Razor Blue"] Hi I have been using a bluetooth ELM adapter for some time.  It.s only one of the cheap chinese clones but it works fine.  The displays in theTorque software  are really great.  If you are interested in monitoring track performance then the paid version Torque Pro would be useful but even ...

[quote user="Roadster Robbie"] For that sort of money I'd certainly take a punt on that. You could probably buy 15 of them for the price of a new one. Be aware, the lower pivot bolt will be tight to undo, taking the engine undertray off an tackling it from underneith gives best access if it's too tight to undo from ...

  • Re: Alternator? Logged voltage drops at above 3500rpm

[quote user="victormeldrew"] As an old-schooler, I would definitely suggest spending a tenner down your local autoelectricians to get it diagnosed first. I would also say (if it is as I guess) to strip it down and fit new brushes and clean up the armature would achieve the same effect for a tiny fraction of the cost. Buying a new ...

  • Re: Alternator? Logged voltage drops at above 3500rpm

[quote user="Roadster Robbie"] New ones are quite expensive. I'd consider one from a breakers such as mx5revive.com. Although I've seen this issue before, this failure is not extremely common so the chances are you'll get a good alternator for a lot less money. If you go the aftermarket route, make sure it's a ...

  • Re: Alternator? Logged voltage drops at above 3500rpm

Rich / VictorMeldrew / Robbie, What a great forum, three really helpful suggestions within the evening - many thanks.  Rich - the reading is taken at the obdii reader and as such a bit of error in this reporting or possible voltage drop at the obdii plug doesnt worry me too much.  The car starts and runs well, other than the voltage ...
