  • Re: Sounds like a Vacuum cleaner...

Matt, not sure if this may be the cause but could be belt noise? has cam belt been changed or any oil leak onto it may be worth checking and other drive belts, a spray of wd40 round inlet manifold/joints could be worth a try if sound in that area. Regards Geoff

  • Re: knocking/scraping noise from rear :-(

Hi Monty, dose the noise come from one side or just all the rear area? dose the noise change when you are cornering,ie loading the wheel bearings, any traces of leakeage from drive shaft gaiters? Even if gaiters dry it my be worth pulling them back to check if they are well greased and have you checked the prop joints (not with ...

  • Re: Tight LSD drve shaft

HI Dave, pull the drive shafts and then check drag on diff output flanges. Had a question about LSD earlier I suggested a tight turn under brisk acceleration would produce a small stutter from rear and would drive away smartly with no drama, if open diff lots of smoke, another test suggested was "wind upto 5,000 & drop the ...

  • Re: Pitted disc

Pitted disks, one of those grey areas unfortunately "slightly pitted" is probably just what it says, but mot specs have been recently altered so that now disks that are to what would have failed a test on corrosion and also thickness will actualy pass, as it says on the ticket its only tested for the day its ...

  • Re: Lowering MX5

Other option gatley would be to fill the arches with some bigger wheels, would be less labour intensive put more rubber on the road and as the other contributor said quite rightly you need (must must!!) get the geometry re set and to get this done properly is a fair wedge on its own. Sorry dont know of any other cheap option of ...

  • Re: have i got an lsd?

I have driven a few cars with LSD and the scary one was a full race mini it just dived all over the place, my 1.8s has LSD and I know it is working, I have to make a sharp turn from a dangerous junction every morning to work and have to accelerate smartish if some prat is doing 80mph round the bend by this junction, the back end gives a ...

  • Re: Hot or not ?

Phil, further to my first post have found the numbers you need if you want to test the temp transmitter. water temp at 20c = 2.27 - 2.73  and at 80c = 0.29 - 0.34 hope this of use. Regards Geoff

  • Re: Is Super/Turbo charging the only route to more power?

Hi Drew, interesting question that has thrown up lots of good info (still going through some of it) but one of the guys I work with showed me an iteresting web item about rear turbos!! I had never heard of such a thing but the one that I saw was fitted on a pugot 205 gti and seemed to have the turbo bolted at the back of the car and had a ...

  • Re: Hot or not ?

Phil, is the gauge telling the truth? the only way to establish this would be to take the temp transmitter out and suspend it in a container of water with an accurate termometer and record the resistance readings for that temp and compare against gauge (sorry dont have the values to hand) the other tool I use is a Fluke infra red ...
