Thanks for your reply.  Do you have the run flat tyres?  If so any opinion re road noise / comfort penalties?  

Sadly I think that's what it's goin to have to be. After the last test drive the salesman suggested I could drive across country to work and thus avoid the A14 and noise.  Not sure I want one enough to double my journey time. Anone have experience of 1 series BMW?

From the photo it looks as though the lacquer is peeling. As for paint colour, in the drivers door frame there should be a sticker with info including paint code.
