• Re: Uninsured drunk drivers; going for the throat

Interesting problem - in theory if that was the case the police should be prosecuting the other driver for driving without insurance etc. You may find that she receives some compensation from the other side if this goes through as a criminal case, which it sounds like it might. If she contacts the police that dealt with it, they should have taken ...

  • Re: Specialists in Hertfordshire?

What do you need doing? We have a number of local garages that you can rely on, but what job needs doing will affect where to suggest. Jack.

  • What? No MX5?

The shortlist has been drawn up for the Classic Car of the Year 2012, and not an MX5 to be seen! I must see a couple of MK1s every day that would qualify, including some really special cars, did nobody enter their car? Since there are no MX5s to vote for, if you want to help me out a friend of mine has been shortlisted with a 1934 Jowett ...

  • Re: Drink Driving

I don't really see what any of the punishment stuff has to do with it. Your partner was seriously suggesting that she would go and collect your child whilst over the drink drive limit? I'd tell her to have a good hard look at herself. The driving ban, the fine, the car being impounded is utterly irrelevant. Drinking and driving kills ...

  • Re: Novice replacing Water Pump... This could end badly!

Hi Dave, How are you getting on? I've got a bit of time free this weekend, and it looks like the weather is on our side, so could come over one afternoon maybe. If you managed to blue the water pump bolts, it might have done some more significant damage, but I'd swap the head gasket and see how it runs. It would require a serious amount ...

  • Re: More over Heating Woes

Have you checked the thermostat too? Could create overheating problems if it isn't opening. To check it, whip it out and stick it in a cup of boiling water, it should open (contract into itself a bit). If you've got a thermometer dip it in, and when it drops a bit it should close again (expand back to "normal" cold ...
Yeah, the head gasket has gone. Garage now wants anotherr £300 to find out if the cylinders are worn. It's car death time I think :-(
Right then, head gasket change is not difficult. I'd be there in a shot, but we are about an hour from you, other side of the M1. If you can hold on until the ...

  • Re: Inlet manafold removal MK1

I did this recently, and found the best option was the right size socket, and just about every imaginable combination of short, medium length and long extension bars, UJ driver and a very fine toothed ratchet. Make sure engine is completely cold, and remove the wiring around the manifold. I can't remember if you remove the fuel rail before or ...

  • Re: Novice replacing Water Pump... This could end badly!

When the water pump went originally, did the car overheat? Sounds like, if you are still getting bubbling after a lot of running in, you either have an airlock somewhere that isn't helping (unlikely after the amount of running you describe) or the head gasket may have gone when it either first overheated or when the temp rose since refitting ...

  • Re: Recommended in-car Video Camera mount?

We recently got the Gopro motorsport mount and it is simply superb. Light, easy to remove, position, and in good quality, I would go for a proper Gopro mount even if you need to fit an adaptor for a standard tripod screw. They will hold up to 150mph on the outside of the car, apparently. For the money, I'd suggest just buying ...
