Welcome to Motorsports Your MX-5 is an excellent car with which to experience track driving, whether you want to stretch you and your car's capabilities to the limit or simply enjoy the sensation of unfettered driving free from the risks and constraints of the public highway. Be warned, however, that most people who try it get bitten by the bug, and go on to enjoy many more events. The Owners Club understands that MX-5 owners want their track experiences to be with considerate drivers in compatible cars, so we try to make all Club events exclusively MX-5s where possible and ensure that all drivers adhere to the track rules and behaviour to ensure that all participants enjoy their experience. So, if you fancy a go on track have a look at the events we have coming up.

Forthcoming Events 2nd August - Drift Day at Oulton Park Organised in conjunction with Trackaction Online, this promises to be a superb day of training and practice on the excellent tarmac rally stage at Oulton Park, which is far better than the typical concrete or rough tarmac of airfield style venues and will also be kind on your tyres. A top ex-professional rally driver, Terry Pankhurst will provide instruction and drivers will then be able to spend the rest of the day practicing in a safe environment. The Club is getting a discounted rate which includes admission for a passenger and, as an added bonus, there is a BRSCC race meeting on the same day. For more details and booking check the forum here16th August - Croft circuit ONE PLACE AVAILABLE - please email Ian for details (motorsport @ mx5oc.co.uk) Although originally based on an airfield, utilising runways and perimeter roads, Croft is a challenging, high speed circuit with a variety of fast, medium and slow corners, but with modern run off areas to increase its friendliness. In North Yorkshire, this is an ideal track for members based in the north of the country. 22nd November - Oulton Park circuit Widely acknowledged as the most picturesque circuit in the country, Oulton Park is recognised as much for its surroundings as the spectacular racing that takes place on its hallowed tarmac. Voted the best UK circuit by British Superbike fans in 2007, Oulton Park features rapidly changing gradients and blind crests, and presents a supreme challenge to drivers. Booking details will be posted here and on the forum nearer the time, but put the date in your diary now. Check out the MX-5 Owners Club Motorsport Forum here; Motorsport forum
Mazda on Track Mazda on Track is a track day company set up by a couple of real MX-5 enthusiasts, Nick Dougill and Al Clarke, to cater specifically for Mazda cars. They are organising a variety of events and a competitive Autotest championship (details here ), for which the Owners Club hopes to be sponsoring a trophy for members who participate. Check out their track day at Llandow as well. Details of Mazda on Track here .
Past events this year
1st April - Brands Hatch
The first event at Brands Hatch was a great success for those who made the trip. It ended up being an open pit lane (i.e. as much track time as you like) event with about a dozen MX5s, several MGs from MGs on Track and a sprinkling of other participants, including a couple of racing pickup trucks! Everyone was very well behaved though, and the combination of a lovely evening and a quiet track made for plenty of opportunity to discover or extend track skills. Some of the participants were first time on track and certainly found it an exciting experience! Others had a little experience and enjoyed extending it whilst the track enthusiasts had plenty of opportunity to enjoy one of the classic UK racing circuits. A few photos can be seen here
6th May – Cadwell Park Unlike last year, the weather smiled on those who ventured to the depths of Linconshire, and a good day was had by all, by all accounts. Cadwell Park was its usual challenging but rewarding combination of bends and gradients and crests, giving both drivers and cars a good workout, which they seemed to enjoy. As one of our regular participants commented "11/10 from me - it's THAT good". Comments and a couple of pictures here or read Nick's write up here
31st May – Curborough
Our annual visit to Curborough lived up to its reputation. The sun shone, the track was fun and everyone, including many first timers some of whom were wives and partners who were surprisingly enthusiastic about having a go when they had the chance, enjoyed the afternoon. Whilst the experienced drivers had their usual fun trying to find that extra edge or better line, for me it was at least as rewarding seeing the novices build up from tentative early runs to enthusiastic and pretty quick performances towards the end. With Curborough being relatively slow and benign, the occasional mistake becomes a learning experience and not a drama. Always a great afternoon of fun. updated 01.07.08 IP
