After lunch we take a short drive to the Blue Bell Railway to spend an afternoon on the newly extended railway. The station was built in 1882 by the London Brighton and South Coast Railway and was really built to serve Lord Sheffield who owned the large house and estate about a mile away. Lord Sheffield was a great supporter of Cricket and the “Sheffield Shield” is still played for today in Australia. This is not a pre booked group visit, as the Group savings are only £1, but either catch a train for the return ride to East Grinstead on the newly opened link or visit the new museum on platform 2. Explore the treasures and read all about the railway from its beginnings in 1882 through to the Bluebell Railway of the present day. A scatter drive is a type of motoring event that combines the fun of a Treasure Hunt and requires some map reading and orienteering skills, so a navigator is required. We will issue a basic map showing the locations you can visit and all will have the Post Code and GPS Co ordinates, so you can use your Sat Nav to get to the destinations of your choice. There is no set route or points gained for the time you take to complete your visits to the 4 destinations. You can visit more if you wish, but you won’t score any additional points and each destination has the same number of points. Each destination will have a location where you can park where you will walk to find the answers to the clue. Refreshment, fuel and toilet facilities will be on the map supplied. Rules.10 points are available in each destination using the supplied question / clue paper. Also instead of collecting items, the event will take on a new twist using a digital camera or mobile phone to take a selection of photographic images. You will need to bring your own digital camera or mobile phone camera with an empty memory card to take part. It is hoped this idea will provide a fun and interesting variation rather than collecting items as would be the more conventional way. A couple of twists will involve you taking a picture of yourselves and one of your car, more details will be provided on the day. Distance.The driving distance will vary according to which route you decide to take, but approx. 40 miles with stops en route. The event is un-timed, but we hope you get to the end destination at the Red Lion Inn at Ashington, by about 5:00pm so the judges can assess your photos on your camera or phone.
