Learn The Skills on Our Unique Clean Water Skid Pan!On this course you will be driving a normal modern unmodified family car which is fitted with special low grip tyres on a clean water skid pan area. This technique which is unique to DriverSkills has been proved to be the most realistic and effective method of learning skid control skills. Your instructor will be a championship winning race or rally driver with lots of experience in training skid control skills. Anti Lock Braking Techniques Anti Lock Brakes UtilisationAlso included are sessions driving on our simulated motorway area, here you will learn how to control the use of ABS (Anti Lock Brakes) for emergency swerve avoidance. Your Skid Pan InstructorIt's important that your instructor has a high degree of skill and experience to enable accurate assessment and development of your skills. Your instructor will be a race winning rally or race car driver and a professional skid pan instructor. This degree of skill and experience will ensure you're taught the correct vehicle control techniques. more..If You're Travelling Then York is a Great Tourist City..Our Skid Control Centre is based in York and many of our clients who travel a long distance to us stay over and include a weekend break. In a recent survey of thousands of tourist across Europe, York was voted their favourite European City to visit. more..
The Skid Car You Use Is Very Important! Our training methods are unique as we don't use an adapted vehicle (as these adapted vehicles do not handle like a normal road car) instead we fit lower grip tyres to a normal modern family hatchback. This means that our cars will skid and handle in the same way that a normal modern vehicle does allowing you to develop control skills that can be applied directly to your own vehicle. Available for Front, Rear or Four Wheel Drive CarsIts vitally important the car used for the training is driven from the same wheels as the participants own vehicle (with the exception of four wheel drive as the technique needed is the same as for a front wheel drive car) Some providers state that they can teach front wheel drive skid control with a rear wheel drive modified car - This Is NOT Possible! We provide both front and rear wheel drive skid cars to ensure that the correct skills are taught. Skid Pan Training in a Clean Environment...Our skid pan uses clean water and is set out on a huge area of smooth concrete which measures 1/2 mile by 3/4 mile and is the largest in the UK. This large area allows us to teach skid control at higher speeds (40mph) in total safety. Course DetailsFirst there's a briefing from your instructor explaining exactly what happens when a car skids, and tips are given on how to avoid a dangerous skid situation on the road. He'll also explain how top class rally drivers avoid crashing in horrendous conditions. Most of today's cars now come with electronic driver aids like ABS and ESP, but what do they do? Your instructor will also explain how this equipment works and what it can do for you! You are then split into groups and introduced to your track instructor (maximum group size 4 people). Skid Pan Session 1Your instructor will demonstrate the driving techniques needed for each activity before you are put in the hot seat! Skid Pan Session 2Your instructor will help you master the basics of car control including under steer and over steer control. Most modern road cars will under steer in the majority of situations and if you know a few basics you can soon get the hang of controlling it. Over steer takes more skill to master but your instructor will show you some tips on how to get the hang of it! Anti Lock Brakes Session 3 On this session you will learn how to master the use of ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System) in an emergency. We set up an avoidance exercise on our simulated motorway to demonstrate just what this system is capable of - if you know how to get the most out of it! Skid Pan Session 4 Back on the skid pan again. On this session you will find everything much easier and more natural. Your instructor will encourage you to let the car slide more and even spin around! This will give you the confidence and techniques needed to bring the car back in control from some seemingly impossible situations! Course CertificateAt the end of the course your instructor will give you a signed certificate More Details. I am pleased to say that they have agreed to maintain last years prices, so once again its £100 per couple DBB.Our plan is to meet at the usual ladybower car park 9am for a 9.30am start. We then drive through the Derbyshire countryside to Congleton, where we will stop for refreshments at our usual garden centre. From there, its small country roads all the way into Llangollen and lunch at the top of the very windy horse shoe pass. Traditionally the afternoon is spent sampling the quaint pubs dotted around the village, or shopping in small gift shops with unpronounceable names. In the evening there will be a special MX5 menu put together by the chef of the hotel followed by drinks at the bar, or you could simply wander back into town to sample the Welsh night life.Early Sunday morning we drive deeper into Wales, stopping off at the quaint tourist village of Betws-y-Coed for lunch and more retail therapy, this is followed by one of the best roads I have driven in years; when the tyres have cooled down, we head around the bottom of Mount Snowden and up to Llandudno on the coast. After a short trip around the "Great Orme" we make our way to the beach for the traditional kite flying competition, you know the thing, who can keep it up the longest! Then its home ward bound via the M56Please join us on this weekend in Wales, you will not regret it!If you are interested please let me know by 15th January as we need to secure the rooms. This will be a prestigious venue and will provide a spectacular backdrop for what promises to be an exciting event.Response so far has been excellent with a number of Clubs arranging to come over and spend a week or a few days in Ireland before or after the event. We are still in the early stages of planning the event with accommodation to be shortly sorted out. Offers with Ferry companies are under discussion and hopefully a further discount can be agreed on top of the discount that is already given by many of the Ferry operators to MX-5 owners. Please remember that you can use your Tesco Club card points to pay, or part pay for the cost of many of the ferry crossings. Keep a check on this page for regular updates and please feel free to contact me with any requests, queries and advice. I attach a couple of useful links that you may want to check out for accommodation that you could use before or after the rally. www.manorhousehotels.comor www.irishcountryhotels.com

South East: 2010 Spring Rally Northern Ireland

The 2010 Spring Rally which will be held on Saturday 29th May, 2010 in Northern Ireland, there will be a Gala Dinner which will be held in the Stormont Parliament buildings. Tickets went on sale yesterday but there are only 200 so get in quick. They are £40.00 each. You can download the application form from the MX5OC Northern Ireland web site at http://www.mx5ni.com/and you can also see a copy of the menu and download a PDF format copy of the presentation about the event which was given at the recent Area Coordinators meeting that I attended. If you have any queries please contact my mobile. Updated 23/1/2010 - Ferry BookingThe Northern Ireland Spring Rally Team have issued the following information concerning Ferry deals to Ireland. If you are planning to go to Ireland please note that some of these deals end soon so you may wish to book early.Hi Folks, I have negotiated what I thought were 2 good offers with Norfolk line for folk travelling to the NI Spring Rally see www.mx5ni.com However I have just been made aware of an even better offer by members on the MX-5 forum at http://claddahtravel.co.uk/html/ferries.html This is a very special offer, basically you pay the single journey and get the return free. This will save a further £41 day time sailing and £51 on the overnight sailing over and above the offer that we had negotiated. I have written to Norfolkline for their comments and to see if they can improve their offer but in the meantime I would be grateful if you could Urgently let all your Club members know as this offer is only available to 31 January 2010 I should point out that Claddah Travel also offer similar deals on other crossings such as Stranraer, Troon etc. however I don’t know how good the savings are, but I assume they must be equally good. ThanksSarah (Mazda Chick)

South Central: Duke of Normandy

We meet on the first Thursday of the month from 8.30 onwards food always available,@ The Duke of Normandy Pub on the A323 in the village of Normandy Surrey.Welcome to 'old' and 'new' members!

Tyne Tees: Over The Hills For Fish & Chips

TBA More Details. After a request from Central Scotland to 'intergrate' with us and in the interests of inter area goodwill we've been looking for accommodation in our area for our MX-5 freinds and neighbours. Okie Dokie, the plan is this...After looking at various hotels in the area and our fact finding mission last Wednesday to Berwick on Tweed, we think the best place to stay is at The Holiday Inn @ Seaton Burn, near Newcastle. It has a huge car park, a bar and lounge area, three restaurants, a Gym and a swimming pool. It isn't too far away from Holy Island. The other hotels either didn't have enough rooms or were too expensive. (Over £120 per room)The Premier Inn at Woodhorn would have been perfect but it only has twenty rooms in total, Seaton Burn suits everyone, it isn't too far for Yorkshire Ridings and Peak & Pennines, however Central Scotland will have to travel south but they will benefit by a shorter journey home after the rounders match. I've already discussed it with Chic Kennedy from Scotland and he is quite happy about that. I have checked availability for the evening of Saturday 3rd July and the Holiday Inn has plenty of rooms available @ £64.00 per room, for room only, based on two sharing . I tried to pre book 30 rooms on a provisional basis but they wanted payment up front from me for that price and it is non refundable..my credit card hid in the corner and won't come out.. I could have got the booking on a non pre-paid basis if we'd been prepared to pay £80 per room, for room only or £90 inc breakfast and I think that is too much to pay. If you want breakfast you could always eat at the Little Chef next door..see below. ** If you're interested in staying at the Holiday Inn on Saturday 3rd July could you please book with the hotel direct. Payment is required at the time of booking and is non refundable. The telephone number is 0871 423 4818 or it can be booked online. There isn't any booking codes. For Anyone not wanting to stay at the Holiday Inn or if it's fully booked.**There's a Travel Lodge right next door to the Holiday Inn, literally a two minute walk away. There's a Little Chef, a fuel station and a cash point machine on site. The tariff is £39.00 per room but there isn't a bar or restaurant. However you can easily walk to the H/Inn to eat there and have a drink in the bar. The telephone number for the Travel Lodge is 0871 984 6166 If you don't wish to stay over and would like to pop along to meet everyone at the Holiday Inn on the saturday night you'll be most welcome to do just that and of course we'll be making arrangements for meeting up with those of you who will be coming along for the rounders match on the Sunday 4th July only. Jim and I will be booking into the Holiday Inn, we've stayed there several times in the past and have always been impressed with it. grounds of Chatsworth House, the ancestral home of the Duke and Duchess of
Devonshire, situated in the heart of the Peak District National Park, over the
weekend of the 18th & 19th of September 2010, Peak
and Pennines
have secured a stunning location directly in front of the house itself.Like all past events, we
needed to have a really special pre rally get together, and this year will be
no exception; our chosen venue for the evening’s entertainment will be the
Beauchief Hotel, www.beauchief-hotel.co.uk
who has agreed a special rate for MX5 owners of just £60 per
room, including a full English breakfast. There is another hotel we
have chosen which is close by it’s the Sheffield Park Hotel www.pedersenhotels.com you will need to quote “MAZDA 18” in order to
receive a special rate of £69 per room which also includes breakfast. If however you prefer the
feeling of canvas above you and the ground below you, then there is always
camping! And of course Derbyshire has
many to chose from, however for convenience of location, cost, parking and
amenities, we have chosen as our “A” site “Barlow Lakes” www.barlowlakes.co.uk here you will
find trout and carp ponds and a small log cabin selling
breakfasts at very reasonable prices., so if you fancy your hand at a spot of
fishing, this one is for you. Our second choice is for the
more discerning, quieter and a little more expensive, is Barn Farm http://www.barnfarmcamping.com/Please contact your
chosen location direct to book either your room or your pitch. Some other web sites which
may be useful are www.peakdistrictonline.co.uk,
www.visitpeakdistrict.co.uk and
www.visitderbyshire.co.ukSaturday daytime, we have
arranged two organised drives through the beautiful Derbyshire countryside,
however if that’s not for you, then you could always try some retail therapy in
the nearby Meadow Hall Shopping Centre, or for the more energetic amongst you,
there is a pay and play golf course within walking distance from the hotel, and
a large national gym that will accept hotel guests for a nominal fee. Later that evening, there
will be a live band playing dance music in a private marquee situated in the
hotels grounds; we have also laid on a home made pie and pea supper to help you
dance the night away, you could even call it a “Northern Dinner Dance” for just
£10 per person. We are looking into
arranging transport for Saturday night to get you from camp site
"A" and the Sheffield Park Hotel to the party and return.Early
Sunday morning we take the 20 minute drive to Chatsworth for the
Rally itself, The rally site opens at 9:00, to avoid congestion
Chatsworth have requested that the majority of the MX5's are on the
rally site before 10:30,we appreciate that some members will be driving
a conciderable distance to attend, and this may not be possibleFor those who have never visited this part of the country before,
Chatsworth is well renowned for its stunning location, fabulous architecture
